Job Summary The Associate Director of Counseling and Student Well-being operates in an increasingly diverse environment, supporting students in their personal, academic, and career development while promoting their overall well-being. This role oversees the administration and coordination of counseling services, including individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and campus-wide clinical outreach and educational initiatives. The Associate Director will lead a comprehensive approach to student well-being, guided by the eight dimensions of wellness. This role includes delivering direct services and serving as a liaison to various campus departments to coordinate wellness activities and resources. The Associate Director will collaborate with colleagues across the university to support departmental goals, enhance student services, contribute to retention efforts, and promote overall institutional growth. Required Qualifications Advanced degree in counseling, psychology, clinical social work or related field. Licensed in a mental health-related discipline in the Commonwealth of Virginia (i.e. LPG or LCSW). Three (3) years prior professional clinical experience working in a community or college/university counseling setting. Experience in brief intervention, mental health crisis assessment, and individual therapy. Working knowledge of counseling theory and techniques. Knowledge of electronic health records systems. Ability to appropriately assess and intervene in crisis situations. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Ability to treat all people equitably and with sensitivity and awareness of cultural differences. Considerable knowledge of professional ethics and the ability to apply it to current work. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Self-motivated with a demonstrated understanding of the developmental issues of college students. Must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment. Experience developing and coordinating well-being initiatives. Experience supervising staff, either student or full-time staff. Preferred Qualifications Five (5) or more years prior professional clinical experience working in a community or college/university counseling setting. Demonstrated ability to provide outreach, prevention, consultation and seminar presentations. Prior experience providing clinical supervision to interns, graduate students, or other clinical staff.
