The Portfolio, Sentinel, Optimism, and Thesis imprints at Penguin Random House are seeking an experienced, creative, and strategic marketer to join our innovative team as Associate Marketing Director OR Marketing Director. This position reports directly to the Associate Publisher and includes management of a small team. This position oversees marketing campaigns for best-selling authors with major, multi-channel platforms and ambitious sales goals.
This Associate Director/Director will work across our four imprints: Portfolio, a diverse list of business titles that we describe as 'nonfiction for ambitious people'; Sentinel, which publishes idea-driven nonfiction that skews conservative; Optimism Press, a list dedicated to promising new voices in leadership and public service curated by bestselling author Simon Sinek; and Thesis, which publishes nonfiction with strong points of view that challenge the status quo on both sides of the political aisle.

Responsibilities:
* Manages and mentors a small team of marketers responsible for a total of 30-40 title campaigns yearly.
* Works with junior marketers to create, communicate, and execute innovative and data-driven marketing campaigns for a variety of titles.
* Individually leads marketing efforts on 2-4 major titles per year.
* Collaborates closely with authors, agents, and colleagues in Editorial, Publicity, Sales, and Creative Marketing Services to communicate, refine, and execute marketing plans.
* Synthesizes best practices from past campaign learnings, and develop new marketing resources, tools, and strategies for future campaigns.
* Analyzes sales patterns, consumer insights, and other key marketing metrics to inform plans and promotions.
* Researches and explores new marketing tools, platforms, and strategies, and identify ways to harness current marketplace trends.
* Liaises with cross-divisional departments including Sales, Backlist, Ad/Promo, Corporate and Consumer Marketing, Consumer Insights, and Publishing Operations, to stay up to date on marketing insights, tools, resources, and policies.
* Collaborates with Associate Publisher to make departmental decisions around budget, assignments, policy, and process.
Requirements:
* Minimum five years prior experience in trade nonfiction book marketing, including creating and executing marketing campaigns for a variety of titles; Minimum 7 years prior experience to be considered for Director level
* Strategic and creative thinker with the ability to demonstrate, with examples, the execution of successful marketing campaigns from strategy through end-product
* Excellent copywriting and communication skills with talent to speak fluently and effectively with top authors and key stakeholders
* Previous experience with and enthusiasm for managing, mentoring, and developing junior talent through frequent, detailed feedback and encouragement
* Fluency in key marketing strategies and tools including email, social media, digital advertising, and influencer marketing
* Proficiency in analyzing sales, consumer insights, and other key marketing metrics
* Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced working environment
* Collaborative, curious reader, detail-oriented, pro-active
* Interest in and knowledge of book marketing, including current trends in nonfiction
The salary range for the role is 85,000-105,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
