Sheps Center for Health Services Research seeks to improve the health of individuals, families, and populations by understanding the problems, issues, and alternatives in the design and delivery of health care services. This is accomplished through an interdisciplinary program of research, consultation, technical assistance, and training that focuses on timely and policy-relevant questions concerning the accessibility, adequacy, organization, cost, and effectiveness of health care services, and the dissemination of this information to policymakers and the general public.Position SummaryThe Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is recruiting an Associate Director for Strategic Initiatives to work under the direction of Mark Holmes, PhD.The Associate Director for Strategic Initiatives (ADSI) will have Center-wide responsibility to identify potential funding opportunities, broker teams to pursue awards, and support proposal development. A key responsibility of this position will be proposal development and working with nascent and established investigators and teams to pursue awards, receive funding, complete the project, and disseminate the findings. Additionally, the ADSI will prioritize dissemination of research findings through interpretation of research results (e.g. publications, presentations, and briefs) and disseminate those findings to new audiences, including potential funders and donors, partners, and key stakeholders such as policymakers, providers, and the community. The ADSI will manage multiple projects, support hiring and start-up for projects as needed, and support multiple investigators to develop new federal and foundation grant proposals. This position reports to the Sheps Center Director, and requires substantial capacity to independently and proactively manage and coordinate research activities of multiple projects and to bring together interested faculty, collaborators, subcontractors, and research staff to respond to proposals or collaborative research projects.Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsRelevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience* Must be able to work with substantial independence and expertise in project management and proposal development, including navigating differences in funder requirements* Experience working in a research centerPreferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience* Masters degree in relevant field (e.g., health services research, public health, etc.) strongly preferred* Ten or more years of experience in a research center preferred* Demonstrated knowledge of and experience interfacing with human resources, research administration, and informational technology in order to complete proposal requirements* Demonstrated experience and expertise in managing a high stress environment with multiple competing deadlines* Demonstrated experience and expertise in navigating and addressing competing demands by investigators, staff, and other key stakeholders* Demonstrated experience and expertise in developing and implementing strategy for a research center* Proactive team-based orientation with high degree of communication and collaborative interpersonal skills* Experience managing a variety of external awards, including federal, state, and/or foundation grants, contracts, and/or training grantsSpecial Physical/Mental Requirements Campus Security Authority ResponsibilitiesNot Applicable.Special Instructions Quick Link
