Associate Director of Business Development - Mid-Atlantic Cooley is seeking an Associate Director of Business Development to join the Marketing & Business Development team to support our Mid-Atlantic offices. Position summary : The Associate Director (AD) will work closely with the Director of Business Development on overall vision, strategy and goal setting, and will be responsible for the oversight and execution of strategy in a specific region or area of focus. The AD will represent the firm in-market with extensive networking activities, manage the targeting strategy, foster cross-department collaboration, manage regional project design, budgets and teams, provide regular reporting on progress, manage event strategy in collaboration with marketing, offer new ideas and insights, all while using data to measure results. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Position responsibilities: Play an instrumental role in designing and advancing the overall approach to win new business within a defined region or function Collaborate closely with practice group, regional and core marketing teams Develop a complete understanding of the firm's business, values, strengths and differentiators Act as an ambassador for the firm and often represents the first interaction a prospect may have with the firm, including participating in meetings and events, identifying and partnering with collaborative ecosystem partners, building trust with channel and referral partners, creating unique opportunities for engagement within the community Thoughtfully assess opportunities to advance new client business internally within the primary practice group and adjacent practice groups Advise on pursuit strategy for specific target prospective clients in various industries, stages, and geographies Identify potential pain points or issues relevant to prospective clients and facilitates solutions Execute on plans to increase inbound referrals from service providers, external partners (such as banking and consulting groups), incubators, accelerators, universities, influencers, and other friendlies After earning the appropriate internal stakeholder buy-in, participate as a team member in pursuit of opportunities from the investment community (including accelerators, incubators, venture capital and private equity firms) Influence stakeholders, including internal and external partners, to achieve desired results Assist with cross-regional and cross-divisional strategy as needed, including lead generation, mentoring, feedback, reporting and championing new efforts and/or initiatives Participates in budget planning and management Visible and active in both internal and external communities Manage a team of Business Development (BD) Managers and other roles as needed Contribute to professional development by teaching, coaching and mentoring Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests Support professional development and continued educational opportunities for the team In collaboration with immediate supervisor and Central HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events Develop executive-level presentation materials for C-suite or senior executive leadership using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint All other duties as assigned or required Skills and experience: Required: After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required Ability to travel, as required 8 years of applicable experience in the field (preferably with minimum of 3 years senior manager experience) with experience leading others A strong understanding of sales and legal operations and an ability to drive strategic dialogue across the firm, inform decision-making, proactively solve problems, and provide analytical insight and business judgment in support of strategic and tactical initiatives Bachelor's Degree Proven track record of performing elevated responsibilities within the current role providing intrinsic leadership & strategic direction to team Proven success as a sales leader in a professional services business and in leading and supporting new business efforts Proven success as an inspiring and effective team leader Preferred: Supervisory management experience Possess mechanics of forecasting, and variable sensitivity analysis Competencies: Highly capable and able to work closely and collaboratively within a team Excellent verbal/written/interpersonal communication skills in various situations (small/large group, one-on-one) Ability to work well with others and develop professional relationships with department members, attorneys and vendors to inspire their trust and confidence Self-motivator with high energy level and enthusiasm towards activities and goals Entrepreneurial spirit with excellent business acumen Ability to work well under pressure within a deadline-driven environment Excellent project management and organizational skills Detail-oriented while multi-tasking Strong customer service skills, ability to work with a variety of personalities internally and externally Cooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE. The expected annual pay range for this position with a work schedule of 40 hours per week is $275,000 - $300,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
