Macaulay Honors College at CUNY seeks an experienced mental health professional for our Associate Director of Counseling Services and Wellness position. The Associate Director will work closely with the Director of Counseling Services and Wellness to meet the needs of our students who require counseling, and improve access to psychoeducation and wellness services/practices for our general student population.
The Associate Director of Counseling Services and Wellness is part of the Student Services and Engagement Division at Macaulay and reports directly to the Director of Counseling Services and Wellness. They serve as the chief assistant to the Director of Counseling Services and Wellness in discharging the duties of the department.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provides students a culturally competent and holistic approach to a college counseling and wellness center, integrating counseling services into a comprehensive student development experience.
- Provides and facilitates a variety of services such as individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, workshops, classroom instruction, and academic intervention.
- Develops partnerships with mental health and wellness providers in New York City to create a seamless referral process for students who need, or seek services, outside of the College.
- Interfaces with academic departments, other College offices, and student groups to assess program needs and develop appropriate responses.
- Performs crisis intervention for emergency situations.
- Administers risk assessment and management of high-risk cases.
- May prepare and present outreach initiatives and workshops.
- Coordinates student care with psychiatric services as needed.
- Assists in planning, evaluating, assessing and marketing of Macaulays counseling services.
- In collaboration with the Director, manage departmental operations, new initiatives, and outreach activities.
- Ensures client satisfaction and responds to client complaints.
- Develops and coordinates relations with strategic partners inside and outside the University.
- Participates in marketing of Center services, shapes short-term and long-term goals for the center.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This is a hybrid position with a 70% on-site requirement.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education:**
A Doctoral degree in Psychology to include Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs is preferred or a Master's degree in an appropriate discipline for personal or psychological counseling is required.
A New York State License as a mental health practitioner (social work, psychology, or mental health counseling) is also required.
**Experience:**
Five+ years of related experience in social work, psychology, or mental health counseling. To meet the supervised experience requirement as a licensed Mental Health Counselor, you must have completed at least 3,000 clock hours providing Mental Health Counseling. The supervised experience must be obtained after completion of the masters degree program required for licensure
A preferred candidate should have:
- Strong clinical practice skills, and familiarity with current trends in wellness, therapeutic methods, and best practices for working with diverse college populations.
- Experience with higher education sector and honors students.
- Experience providing crisis management, referrals, and overall coordination of care.
- Ability to facilitate linkages to external providers and navigate community resources that support college students.
- Familiarity with program management and external partnership development.
- Strong interpersonal skills (oral & written) and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
