Job Description:Amherst College invites applications for the Associate Director of Housing & Operations position. The Associate Director of Housing & Operations is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $72,000 per year - commensurate with experience. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.Reporting to the Director of Housing & Operations and serving as a member of the Office of Community Living, the Associate Director focuses on the logistical and operational elements of our residential campus. The Associate Director is the lead for move-in and move-out processes, residential inventory, weekly census, key management, and various additional residential logistics. The Associate Director is responsible for developing systems and practices that are transparent to students while providing entry points to students' development of accountability and life skills. The Associate Director supervises the Assistant Director of Housing, allowing for cross-training and substantial support throughout the academic year. The Associate Director works collaboratively and liaises with the Department of Facilities and Campus Operations teams to maintain the daily operations of our 35 residence halls. The Associate Director contributes to the creation and maintenance of protocols for coordinating residence hall repairs, the coordination of move-in and move-out, as well as the organization and implementation of Transitional and Summer Housing. Additionally, the Associate Director is responsible for creating, reporting, and preserving high-quality data related to occupancy, the throughput of resident students, and the facilitation of students' registered accommodations whenever possible. The Associate Director assesses student housing trends and benchmarks information against peer institutions, and maintains occupancy and housing capacity reports to provide advice on current enrollment projections. Summary of Responsibilities:Operations
- Supervises the Assistant Director of Housing
- Coordinates move-in and move-out procedures for all residency periods, including new student move-in
- Oversees transition periods between formal semesters and proactively supports the needs of underrepresented students
- Coordinates early-arrival and late-stay housing processes
- Designs and facilitates room condition reporting systems and subsequent damage charges and billing processes
- Coordinates bedroom inventories, common area inventories and partners with Planning, Design & Construction and other Community Living staff to plan for furniture replacement, capital improvements, and building renovations
- Designs and coordinates Health & Safety Checks in partnership with Community Living and Environmental Health & Safety staff at regular intervals
- Oversees the production of all office forms and marketing information
- Supervises a diverse group of student staff in their on-/off-boarding as well as roles around housing, storage, move-in/out procedures, and room change tracking
- Coordinates partnerships with off-campus vendors for including student subsidy coordination and the scheduling and communication during openings and closings
- Oversees full residential key inventory, including processing lost keys and issuing fees as necessary
- Oversees temporary proximity card issuance and return
Housing
- Facilitates transitional housing during Commencement and Reunion periods in concert with Summer Conferences, and Custodial and Facilities teams
- Supports the facilitation of the room change process
- Maintains a working knowledge of all housing-related technology including the electronic housing portal, StarRez, training and reporting, as well the related website contents. This includes data integration with Workday, CSGold, and Slate
- Collaborates with the Director to manage housing overflow and room configurations in order to maximize occupancy as needed
- Ensures consistent and accurate data integrity in StarRez related to housing inventory and student assignments and regularly shares rosters with appropriate campus partners
Student Affairs Generalist
- Serves on the Student Affairs second-tier administrator on-call rotation
- Submits an annual report to the director each year outlining goals, progress, assessment, and developing opportunities
- Participates in a wide range of discussions regarding strategic planning for the office and the Student Affairs
- Serves on campus-wide committees as deemed necessary by the Director
Qualifications:Required
- Master's degree in Business, Higher Education, Student Development, Student Personnel, or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience in college residential living environments and in facilitating technical administrative processes engaging populations of faculty, staff, and students
- Strong written and verbal communication; interpersonal comfortability, strong time management, and organizational skills that enable multiple simultaneous projects to be tracked effectively
- Working knowledge of student development theories/practice
- Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution and learning outcomes
- Demonstrated experience with computer software, including Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace
- Demonstrated experience with data management, reconciliation, and security
- Commitment and demonstrated experience in working with a diverse community
- Successful completion of a CORI check
- Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test
Preferred
- 5+ years of previous experience working with StarRez or similar housing management systems
