The Associate Director of Public Safety, a command-level role, acts as Director in their absence and serves as the primary University Investigator. This salaried management position oversees safety and security operations, requiring a dynamic leader who upholds values of fairness, integrity, and respect while fostering campus unity and safety.Leadership and Values:* Embody and promote the university's values of caring and compassion, justice and integrity, competence and affirmation in all aspects of the role.* Foster an inclusive and respectful environment where each member of the campus community is treated with fairness and dignity.* Promote a spirit of unity and collaboration to achieve the university's mission of providing a safe and supportive learning environment.Safety and Security Operations:* Oversee and manage all aspects of campus safety and security operations, including the supervision of public safety officers and staff.* Develop, implement, and review safety and security policies and procedures to ensure effectiveness and compliance with university standards and regulations.* Coordinate and manage security operations for special events, ensuring appropriate staffing and resources are allocated to maintain a secure environment.Investigations and Compliance:* Conduct and oversee general investigations related to campus safety and security incidents, ensuring thorough and impartial inquiries.* Serve as the university's Title IX investigator, as requested by the Title IX Coordinator, conducting investigations into complaints of sexual harassment and misconduct.* Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to campus safety and security, including Title IX requirements.Staff Management and Supervision:* Supervise and provide leadership to public safety officers, including assigning shift responsibilities, conducting performance evaluations, and providing training and professional development opportunities.* Maintain clear and effective communication with the contract security company, ensuring that their services align with university policies and standards.Community Engagement:* Engage with students, faculty, and staff to address safety concerns, promote safety awareness, and build positive relationships within the campus community.* Develop and implement educational programs and initiatives to enhance safety awareness and preparedness among the university community.Administrative and Operational Duties:* Prepare and manage the departmental budget, including the allocation of resources, procurement of equipment, and oversight of expenditures.* Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety incidents, investigations, and departmental activities.* Provide regular reports and updates to university administration on safety and security matters, including trends, incidents, and departmental performance.* Other duties as assigned.* Proficient in Microsoft Word and Google Workspace platforms.* Minimum of 2 years of investigative experience or equivalent with the ability to obtain Title IX Investigator certification.* Must have at least 2 years of demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience, or equivalent.
