University of Tennessee Position Description: Associate Director of VFL Films General Description : This position is the director of cinematography for VFL Films and the Tennessee Athletic Department. As the director of cinematography this position guides, shapes and communicates creative visionas a part of the Tennessee Athletics brand for video content. This position will work with the entire VFL Films team, 151 Creative, Media Relations, Fan Experience and various sports team staff members to develop best-in-class creative content for Tennessee Athletics. This position will focus on development of unique & innovative creative storylines, lighting, video shoots, sports cinematography and video editing. This position will communicate the strategy to create cohesion with all members of VFL Films related to all unique & innovative creative storylines, lighting, video shoots, sports cinematography and video editing. This position has a heavy emphasis on high-end / creative story telling in various forms, content requiring an elevated creative skill set including storyboarding ideas, copy writing scripts and storytelling as well as development of visual elements. High-end creative storytelling includes feature, social & digital media, recruiting, in-venue entertainment social media campaigns, and documentaries for Tennessee Basketball and other sports or post-season competitions as assigned. Duties and Responsibilities: Cinematography Create best-in-class video shoots, creative story lines, overall cinematography for Tennessee Basketball, including innovative set designs, lighting and creative videography. Assist various staff members across Tennessee Athletics on how to provide best-in-class creative content, teaching members of the VFL Films staff & others how to create unique sets, lighting and creative video. Creative content includes but is not limited to coverage of games, practices, feature stories, social & digital media, recruiting, in-venue entertainment and other team functions. This position will provide coverage of these events that is best-in-class, unique per event. Decisions for coverage and creative content must be made & communicated in a fast-paced, high stress environment. This position must stay curious to constantly evolve interview styles, scenic shoots, facilities tours, and other as needed footage. Post-Production/Editing Master and continuously acquire skills related to editing techniques to provide best-in-class videos and creative content that further elevates the Tennessee brand. Evolve in the approach to producing various content that relates to Tennessee Basketball and other sports as needed. Create efficiencies an innovative approach & constant evaluation on videography. Stay innovative in the approach to coverage and evaluate each piece of creative video content. Provide additional education, training and feedback for student staff, VFL Films and members of 151 Creative team on best-in-class editing skills. Organization & Management Assist in creating a plan for organizing all video footage, along with creating an archival system that allows staff to access hundreds of years of video footage for Tennessee Athletics. This position will create an archival system that stores hours of historical footage for every Tennessee Athletics team, press conference or video. This system will be accessed for any edit, video, creative content piece to be made & will support local, regional & national media (SEC Network, ESPN, CBS, ABC, etc.) as they develop stories on Tennessee Athletics. Work alongside Assistant AD & other Associate Director to enhance media management of footage. Create a labeling, loading & management system for all VFL Films staff & students to utilize. Organization is a must to create this system and understanding of the complexities. Help manage & train all Tennessee students working with VFL Films to build the premier student program in all of college sports for videography & cinematography. Other Dutie Provide creative solutions, innovative ideas and new, creative ideas on how to approach coverage per event and storytelling in college sports. Work directly with Assistant AD on planning for equipment needs and budget strategy. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Education: Associate's degree is required. Bachelor's degree is preferred. Experience: 3 years of relevant work experience (internships, GA, post-grad positions included) with a collegiate sports program or a professional sports team is required. 5 years working in an athletics department is preferred. Long-form and Short-form editing experience is preferred. Skills: Expertise & demonstrated knowledge in a variety of camera types and formats. Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite and other editing platforms. Expertise in sports cinematography and editing. Expertise and skill in content production. Expertise and ability in video production lighting including both studio and on location lighting. Ability to effectively manage media. Ability to remain calm, communicate & provide solutions to problems. Ability to collaborate and communicate across departments. Knowledge of studio and field audio acquisition is preferred.
