Position DetailsPosting Summary Position Title Associate Director, Student Engagement & Activities Posting Number AS912P Subdivision Student Develpmt&Engagmt VP's Offc Division Student Development & Engagemt Department Student Development & Engagemt Dept Location Erie, Pa Position Summary The Associate Director of Student Engagement and Activities animates the University's primary aim of transforming lives and inspiring transformation through high-impact retention initiatives, small group engagement, and collaborative leadership development experiences on- and off-campus. This position will play a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant and inclusive campus community and enhancing the student experience by developing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating comprehensive leadership programs founded in student development theory, principles and best practices. This includes, program development, training, decision-making, recruitment, coaching, advising, facilitation, assessment and budget management.This position will also support the Activities Programming Board (APB) through advising, program development, and evaluation, risk management, benchmarking and assessment, strategic planning and execution, and other duties that would further advancement of the programming board and community at Gannon University. The Associate Director must be able to support and promote the University's Mission and GU+ Service Framework of Respect, Wellbeing, Engaged, and Seamless.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSActivities Programming Board (APB)
  • Lead the charge of a comprehensive calendar of events promoting student engagement through Activities Programming Board, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Student Government Association, other clubs and organizations and campus departments.
  • Directly advise and provide strategic direction and oversight for the Activities Programming Board, ensuring a broad range of events that cater to diverse student interests and promote campus community.
  • Mentor and develop student leaders within the Activities Programming Board, fostering skills in event planning, project management, teamwork, and leadership.
  • Guide the programming board through the entire event lifecycle, from concept development to post-event evaluation.
  • Ensure that all events comply with University policies, safety regulations, and risk management protocols.
  • Develop and manage budgets for the Activities Programming Board, ensuring responsible and strategic use of funds.
  • Conduct regular environmental scans and needs assessments to identify emerging trends and opportunities in student engagement.
  • Leadership Development
  • Lead the creation, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive leadership development curriculum tailored to meet the diverse needs of Gannon University's student body.
  • Develop and facilitate leadership workshops, retreats, seminars, and certificate programs that incorporate contemporary leadership theories and practical applications.
  • Coordinate the centralized leadership selection process for multiple departments across the university.
  • Provide training and support to FSL, APB, student clubs and organizations executive board members and advisors through large-group trainings, seminars, conferences, workshops, and on-line learning modules.
  • Work collaboratively to educate and train student leaders on justice, diversity and inclusion issues to foster a sense of belonging for historically marginalized students.
  • Serve as an advisor to individual students seeking to expand and develop new leadership skills and experiences.
  • Develop and utilize assessment tools to measure the effectiveness and impact of leadership programs, collecting both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Leadership Development and Campus Engagement
  • Provide direct supervision and mentorship to the Coordinator of Student Engagement and Fraternity & Sorority Life, offering guidance and support in their daily responsibilities. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to review progress, address challenges, and set goals for their professional development.
  • Assist the Coordinator in advising student clubs and organizations and fraternity and sorority life, providing guidance on advising, event planning, budget management, and organizational development.
  • Participate in university admissions events, orientation events, homecoming/alumni weekend, and any other scheduled community event.
  • Submit assessment plans and outcomes and complete program reviews for retention and benchmarks of the department to best forecast program growth.
  • Promote Leadership Development & Campus Engagement and Student Development & Engagement offices to community members, alumni, and donors.
  • Demonstrate competence around administrative functions for program responsibilities, including creating comprehensive marketing programs, scheduling appropriate facilities, budgeting, data analysis, and assessment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope and responsibility and requirements of the job.
  • Required Qualifications Education: A master's degree is required.Experience: The following experience is required:
    • Working with university/college activities and events, student leadership training, and/or with student groups in a college or university setting.
    • Ability to design and execute large-scale events and activities as experiences.
    • Develop curriculum and facilitate developmental trainings.
    • Must have experience with budgeting and assessment.
    Skills: The following skills are required and expected to be developed to a level of excellence with substantiating evidence to support.
    • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with diverse constituents including but not limited to students, faculty, administrators and community partners.

    Licenses and Certifications: A current valid driver's license and good driving record are required. University's Mission: Must be able to support and promote the University's mission, its Catholic identity, and its strong liberal-arts foundation.Preferred Qualifications Experience:
    • Two years of relevant experience is preferred.
    • Experience in the following settings is preferred: higher education, student development, education training and development, counseling or psychology.
    • Direct experience with CampusLabs Engage platform is preferred.
    Skills: Competence around traditional and emergent technology and evidence of having built collaborative partnerships in a dynamic environment is preferred. Physical Demands Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with the high-energy and robust pace of a highly active office.
