The University of Utah seeks a highly motivated, student-centered, and dedicated professional to serve as the Associate Director of Student Accountability. Reporting to the Director of Student Accountability, the Associate Director oversees the student accountability process that is outlined in Policy 6-400: Student Rights and Responsibilities ( This full-time position is responsible for assisting in the supervision and management of all aspects of the student accountability system and providing a philosophical, developmental, and educational context for student behavior on campus. The Associate Director must strategically lead the program, balancing the needs of individual students with the needs of the community and those directly affected by a student's behavior. This position is responsible for providing leadership, training, support, and guidance to members of the campus community in addressing misconduct and/or assisting students affected by another's behavior.

Responsibilities

* Assists the Director in developing, administering, and revising appropriate departmental policies and procedures and student accountability policies and processes consistent with University community standards and professional best practices.

* Supervises Case Managers assigned to the student accountability team.

* Serves as the lead student accountability case manager, including all Amnesty for Seeking Medical Attention or Reporting Violent Acts cases.

* Serve as after business hour support for on-call staff through the AD on-call rotation, as part of the ODOS/HRE department response team in the case of an emergency. Thorough response to critical inquiries or needs from families, students, staff, faculty, alumni, and other campus constituents is an expectation along with knowledge of legal issues pertinent to housing.

* Facilitates the appointment of hearing board members and provides leadership and training for staff, faculty, hearing boards, and others on appropriate resolution of student accountability matters.

* Maintains student accountability records in accordance with all Federal laws and University policies and monitors and ensures compliance with Federal and State Laws including the Clery Act, Title IX, and Drug-Free Schools.

* Serves as a member of the University's Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) with administrative units to address and resolve issues including threat assessment strategies.

* Oversees communication with students, faculty, staff, parents, attorneys, and others regarding student accountability matters.

* Provides consultation for students with problems, questions, and/or concerns regarding sexual assault, stalking situations, physical assault, harassment, problems with faculty and staff, etc.

* Directs student programming and learning outcomes in the area of student rights and responsibilities designed to improve student development while achieving institutional objectives. Develops, implements, and analyzes assessment initiatives that foster student success.

* Provides educational programming and outreach for the University community including during new student orientation.

* Prepares/oversees the preparation of departmental publications and statistical and annual reports.

* Represents the Office of the Dean of Students on University-wide and Divisional committees as well as University and external agencies as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Master's degree in Business Administration or related area preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

* Experience working in settings with students from diverse backgrounds and a strong commitment to historically underrepresented students

* Working understanding of promising practices of Housing and Residential Education

* Training and affiliation with related professional associations (ASCA, NASPA, ACPA, NaBITA, HECMA, etc.)

* Familiarity with Advocate, or other applicable case management software
