Job Description:
The Associate Director of the Youth Empowerment Program is responsible for the development, planning and implementation of the strategic vision, goals, and objectives for the Youth Empowerment Program while also serving as Sakhi's Leadership Team to be part of organization-wide decision making. This position reports to the Director of Programs.Program Development and Management
  • In partnership with the Director of Programs, develop and implement the vision for the Youth Empowerment Program
  • In partnership with the Leadership Team, participate in organization-wide decision making and creating organizational policies/procedures
  • Ensure Youth Empowerment Program advocates and counselors meet all legal requirements and have necessary certifications
  • Develop systems and processes to ensure that Youth Empowerment Program works in partnership with other program offerings
  • Ensure routine and comprehensive program evaluation
  • Plan, organize and lead structured programs and support groups
  • Stay abreast of new developments in the field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision, guidance and mentoring to Youth Empowerment Program staff and interns
  • Coordinate with and conduct regular supervisions with Youth Empowerment Program staff, including interns and volunteers, for Youth Empowerment Program activities
  • Train and provide clinical supervision to MSW/MHC interns
  • Develop and maintain MSW/MHC intern documentation as needed
  • Work in partnership with other Associate Directors to uplift community voices and advance services
Counseling Services
  • Provide culturally-appropriate, trauma-informed, holistic counseling services to youth survivors of gender-based violence - maintain a small caseload
  • Provide psychoeducation to youth survivors on the impact of trauma and common reactions to abuse and violence
  • Help youth survivors understand power and control dynamics and cycles of violence within their relationships, and create safety plans as needed for emotional and physical health
  • Help youth survivors learn tools to manage the intensity of their trauma reactions
  • Refer youth survivors to community resources or specialists as necessary
  • Act as youth survivors advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations
  • Collaborate with other Sakhi staff for referrals and to streamline youth survivors to services and programs
Grant Management and Development
  • Maintain records of all survivor related work/activities through efficient data collection and notetaking
  • Produce accurate reports and draft narratives for grant reporting
  • Work closely with Development Team to create work plans, attend site visits, and offer pertinent information as needed
Outreach, Training, and Advocacy
  • Raise awareness of gender-based violence in the local South Asian and Indo-Caribbean community and dismantle the stigma around mental health through outreach activities
  • Represent Sakhi on relevant task forces, coalitions, and committees to voice trends of gender violence and mental health in South Asian communities
Required Qualifications
  • Master's in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field. SIFI certification preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in direct social service with knowledge of trauma, gender-based violence
  • Fluency in one or more South Asian and/or Indo-Caribbean language (s)
  • Strong leadership skills and team management experience
  • Ability to work well across teams
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, and strong writing and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Acute attention to detail with ability to multitask, prioritize, and act decisively
  • Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office, G-Suite
  • a background in youth development work
