The Associate Engineer is responsible for ensuring the efficient execution of welding processes within a pipeline construction environment. The candidate will also be responsible for examining, designing, and evaluating welds, planning, and documenting welding operations using relevant codes, drawings, or contracts. The Associate Engineer will play a pivotal role in the integrity of a vast number of pipelines that require welds and will assist other engineers in developing of welding manuals, procedures, specifications, and bulletins to ensure conformation to the current federal, state, and local regulations.The Associate Engineer may be assigned to work under the supervision of a Team Leader, such as an Engineer or a Senior Engineer.Required Education/Experience
* Master's Degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or related technical field and 2 years of full-time work experience in engineering, construction, or other operations area or
* Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or related technical field and 2 years of full-time work experience in engineering, construction or other operations area.
Relevant Work Experience
* Must have minimum of 2 year's full time relevant experience with materials selection, metallurgy, multi-disciplinary collaboration, welding automation/robotics, and welding codes/standards compliance. Required
* Must have computer literacy and the ability to direct the usage of electronic computer-based analytical simulations. Required
* Demonstrated ability in managing and reviewing welding procedures, welding procedure qualifications and generating welding procedures. Required
* Certified Welding Inspector or ability to get certified within a year. Preferred
* Experience working productively and effectively in a team environment. Preferred
* Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Preferred
Licenses And Certfications
* Driver's License Required
* Other: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), American Welding Society Preferred
* Other: Certified Radiographic Interpreter (CRI), American Welding Society Preferred
* Other: Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng), American Welding Society Preferred
* Other: ASNT NDT Level I/II, American Society for Nondestructive Testing Preferred

* Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.

* Must be able and willing to travel to locations within the company service territory as needed.
Core Responsibilities
* Works as part of an interactive team with Gas ENG Welding Ctr of Excellence staff in the overall development of the Con Edison Gas Transmission and Distribution Welding processes and programs.
* Assist in all root cause investigations into weld related defects and lessons learned.
* Under the direct supervision of a team leader, assist in writing and reviewing of welding requirements, procedures, processes. This may include direct preparation of drawings, cost estimates, and economic evaluations of various designs.
* Assist in preparation and revision of Company specifications in conformance with PSC, DOT, OSHA and other regulatory agencies as it relates to manual weld and repair requirements.
* Have general knowledge of ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, API 1104, API Appendix A, API Appendix B Inservice and other ASME sections.
* Performs other related tasks and assignments as required.
