With more than 1800 active global patents, Victaulic solutions operate in 125 countries across diverse business lines, including oil and gas, chemical, mining, power generation, water and wastewater treatment, military and marine, as well as commercial building and fire protection.About the TeamThe Engineering Lab Technician will work in an Engineering Research and Development Laboratory with the responsibility of testing and evaluating components and prototypes to maintain initiative and project timelines for new product or process introductions. This includes ensuring that all standards and requirements are met during the prototype development stage. Creative input is required frequently, as prototype specifications are often incomplete during early project development.Job Responsibilities:* Responsible for mixing new elastomeric (rubber) compounds developed by the principal investigators in a Rubber Dispersion (Banbury) Mixer and two roll mill.* Process prototype elastomer products through injection and compression molding and perform qualification testing.* Mold polymeric compounds, and test samples according to Engineering specifications and ASTM standards.* Responsible for proper handling, dispensing, and disposal of chemicals per governmental regulations based on internal processes and procedures.* Perform material properties testing using the following testing: compression set, tensile, stress relaxation, long-term heat aging, immersion, thermal cycle testing, and other applicable testing as required.* Equipment knowledge preferred: Viscometer, Rheometer, Instron, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), FTIR, TGA, pH Testing, stress relaxation, and GC/MS.* Record testing conditions and observations accurately in a laboratory notebook, document data electronically, and generate test reports. Reporting of atypical finds to Lead and Engineering team.* Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.* Inspect, maintain, and perform preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment and analytical instruments as required to ensure efficient instrumentation operations.* Provide creative input and recommendations to the polymer testing and development process based on experience and industry standards.Education:* (Optional)BS in Engineering or applied life science.* (Preferred) Associate or technical degreeQualifications:* Follow all company safety requirements, and procedures and participate in testing safety reviews.* Log and estimate all hours using Liquid Planner (LP) and use LP as a primary communication tool.* Knowledge of safety and environmental procedures in a chemicals environment, in compliance with ISHA and EPA regulations.* Specific policies and procedures have been established by the Engineering Department to provide for the security and accessibility of electronic data and confidential information. It is the responsibility of the employee, in the daily course of doing business, to follow said policies as they relate to document management (see EOG-26). The extent to which departmental research and development information is stored electronically has vastly increased and will continue to do so. The new Federal rules about electronic discovery stipulate that substantive email communications constituted records under the Federal Records Act. It is therefore the responsibility of each departmental employee to understand their role in communicating via e-mails and that all e-mails must be written/responded to in a professional manner, as outlined in EOG-26.* Associate and/or technical degree preferred and/or 12 months related work experience* Independent and self-motivated to seek clarification and act when work orders are unclear, or issues are encountered during work in order to deliver excellent service* Desire to learn and actively seeks to build or acquire new knowledge in order to improve and develop skills.* Proficient computer skills.
