Role Purpose

The role of Associate General Counsel sits within the Global Operations division. Global Operations provides support to global operations functions with specialist expertise in real estate, employment, commercial law, and related matters, and acts as an advisory partner for corresponding business units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a strategic partner to enable effective planning to maximize impact and realize strategy within regulatory framework and organization-wide policies/standards/processes including understanding the global workforce and labour relations, and identifying and anticipating legal needs.
  • Advise People & Culture and the organization on day-to-day labour and employment matters in respect of the global workforce, including multi-jurisdiction reorganizations, reviewing and updating employment-related policies and templates, and legal issues affecting employee benefit plans.
  • Advise on the development and implementation of organizational policies and large-scale projects such as equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Manage the relationship with the US union, including bargaining and related matters.
  • Advise on US benefit matters, including ERISA compliance, governance, and benefit plan design.
  • Engage and instruct external counsel when needed and coordinate advice as appropriate.
  • Advise on transactions including consultancies, commercial contracts, licenses, and software agreements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications
  • Law degree or equivalent from an accredited university and admission to practice law in the relevant location.
  • ExperienceEssential:
  • A minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience at a law firm and/or in-house, with experience in US employment law and labor relations.
  • Experience with drafting and negotiating in matters requiring keen attention to detail.
  • Experience engaging and instructing external counsel.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience working for an international organization and/or in the non-profit field.

    The salary range for this role is $145,100 - $275,700. The final offer is influenced by skill set and level of experience.
