Job DescriptionDescription: The Associate General Counsel will be responsible for handling a wide range of matters including IP licensing and distribution; copyright and other intellectual property matters; non-profit tax matters such as the deductibility of donations and UBIT; data privacy; IT license, software, and service agreements; individual giving; gift vehicles such as family foundations and donor advised funds; corporate and individual sponsorships; exhibition loan agreements; transfer agreements; goods and services agreements; preparing and filing cy pres petitions; basic contract review; and a variety of other matters as directed by the General Counsel. One of the fundamental requirements of the position is an awareness and understanding of the obligations The Juilliard School has as a tax-exempt educational organization so that appropriate legal advice and representation is provided. The expected salary range for this position is $180,000 to $187,000. The salary is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization, and scope of experience.   • A desire to join a mission-driven higher education institution and in-house legal and compliance operation
  • Knowledge of New York not-for-profit and education law, intellectual property and licensing law, gift giving, and federal tax exemption laws and regulations
  • Experience in basic contract review
  • Experience in government, an educational institution, a non-profit institution, or the equivalent
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others in a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to multi-task, and manage multiple matters at once
  • Excellent judgment and the ability to balance legal risks with business strategy
  • The highest level of integrity and attention to servicing the institution
  • A deep appreciation of the performing arts and a dedication to providing the highest caliber performing arts education
Required Qualifications:
  • A J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and New York State bar admission
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Professional experience providing legal services to non-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, or cultural organizations is strongly preferred.
