We Are Hiring for Associate Hazardous Materials Specialist!

($6,069 - $8,321 Monthly)

The Department of State Hospitals - Coalinga is now accepting applications for a Permanent Full-Time Associate Hazardous Materials Specialist position. Under general direction of the Chief of Plant Operations III or designee, plans, conducts, and evaluates a comprehensive environmental health and safety program to promote a safe working environment; conducts and implements a hazardous materials, hazardous waste, and disaster management program; evaluates hazardous materials health and safety-related training programs; responsible for risk assessment of safety issues as they relate to hazardous materials, hazardous wastes, and confined spaces. Ensures facility is in compliance with regulatory agencies and standards, which include, but are not limited to, Water Resources, Air Quality, RCRA, SARA, EPA, OSHA, Public Health, Fire Marshall, and local fire departments. Implements & maintains a Material Safety Data Sheet record keeping program, confined space program, Business Plan, and Contingency Plan.

Working Conditions

The employee is required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings throughout the hospital and may be required to work overtime and float to other work locations as determined by the operational needs of the hospital. All employees are required to have an annual health review and TB test or whenever necessary to ascertain that they are free from symptoms indicating the presence of infection and are able to safely perform their essential job functions.

Department Information

DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and began treating forensically committed patients, mostly of which are sexually violent predators. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital constructed with a security perimeter. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security as well as transportation of patients to outside medical services and court proceedings.
