DuPont Electronics and Industrial - Vespel R&D group - is seeking an Associate Investigator to join our Team, located at the Experimental Station site in Wilmington, DE.

The successful candidate will function as part of the research and development team. The candidate will perform hands-on laboratory work under the direction of a technical Principal Investigator. The candidate is expected to apply scientific skills and expertise regarding the research project(s) which involve all aspects of organic chemistry working with hazardous chemicals, powder handling, making parts using press and oven, mechanical testing, and tribology testing. The candidate is expected to have a familiarity with analytical instrumentation and Mechanical testing. While the candidate is expected to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team, the candidate is also expected to be able to work independently in the laboratory.

Your Key Responsibilities

* Independently conducting organic reactions, including reaction system assembly, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and experimental documentation using an electronic laboratory notebook system.

* Independently making parts from resins, including mixing, milling, pressing, and sintering, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and experimental documentation using an electronic laboratory notebook system.

* Analyze results, recognize erroneous or unexpected outcomes, and make suggestions for a path forward.

* Characterize material structure and performance, using various spectroscopic techniques, including, NMR, IR

* Become familiar with and learn polymer characterization instrumentation such as DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, Impact and Tensile Testing.

* Properly document and report all experimental data. Present findings and results at team meetings.

* Ability to use windows-based computer systems.

* Troubleshoot and calibrate instruments. Author and prepare instrument manuals and SOPs.

* Participate and follow all DuPont safety policies and best practices. Support process safety management (PSM) by maintaining laboratory safety documentation.

* Order and purchase supplies when needed. Maintain chemical, resin and experimental sample inventory.

* Coordinate outside laboratory testing, including shipping samples following proper DOT rules and regulations.

* Required limited lifting of lab equipment (Reactor, glassware, etc.).

Qualifications:

* BS in Chemical Engineering, Material, Chemistry, or related disciplines.

* Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

* Knowledge or working experience with polymer characterization instrumentation is preferred.

* Ability to learn a wide variety of testing methods and instruments.

* Experience with mechanical testing equipment is preferred.

* Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, organize, and plan responsibilities.

* Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.

* This position requires access to export-controlled technology, technical data or defense services, as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access export-controlled technology, technical data or defense services as authorized pursuant to US regulation or an export authorization obtained by DuPont approved by the controlling US government agency.
