Job OverviewThe Associate Principal is the second level of administration and supervision assigned to a middle school or high school campus. The incumbent may perform many of the same duties as assigned to an assistant principal position but are generally assigned school-wide responsibilities that are broader in scope. The Associate Principal has supervision over assistant principals, faculty and staff. The Associate Principal acts for the Principal in his/her absence as required and/or assigned.Position DescriptionEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstructional Leadership and School Management
  • Provide instructional leadership for the campus including analyzing data and developing plans to increase student achievement with the principal
  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of the District approved curriculum in all courses
  • Participate in developing the Campus Improvement Plan and assist with the curriculum-related activities such as program development and evaluation
  • Assist in the development and implementation of campus specific staff development
  • Monitor student behavior, student attendance, and enforce discipline rules
  • Develop, design, maintain master schedule
  • Serve in the principal's role when the principal is not available
Personnel Management
  • Support the principal in defining the expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management and communication with the public
  • Practice a commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement
  • Assist with interviewing, selecting, evaluating, and growing high quality school staff
Administrative and Facilities Management
  • Manage the use of and coordinate the maintenance of school facilities and grounds to ensure a clean, orderly and safe learning environment
  • Provide leadership in the development of budgets, master schedule, and other similar projects based on documented program needs
  • Perform all technical or procedural responsibilities efficiently and effectively (such as textbooks, duties, transportation, substitutes, keys, student activities, records, etc.)
School/Community Relations
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate teaching, support services, student services, student activities and school/community relations programs
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication resulting in productive working relationships with students, staff, public, and other system administrators
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities for instructional and non-instructional staff of the assigned campus in accordance with the District's policies and applicable laws
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily.   • Master's Degree
  • Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification
  • Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) certificate or its equivalent Instructional Leadership Development (ILD or ILT) or must be obtained within 3 months of start date as designated by the Department of School Leadership
  • Board Approved T-TESS Certification or must be obtained within 3 months of start date as designated by the Department of School Leadership
  • Minimum of 2 years (MS, HS) campus level administrative experience as an assistant principal or dean of instruction
  • Minimum of 2 years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Possesses a moral and ethical compass
  • Demonstrates a heart and passion for leadership
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to manage personnel
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.Additional Information
  • Work will require frequent prolonged and irregular hours including some evening and weekend responsibilities. Travel may be required to attend district and/or state meetings and conferences and school-related events.
