DNV Energy Systems North America is seeking an Associate Project Manager with a strong technical background in energy transition technologies (e.g. wind, solar, storage, EV, decarb), and/or practical experience with project financing for our Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Advisory Services team! Our M&A team operates at the cutting edge of the renewables industry providing technical due diligence and advisory services to diverse customers in the North American market, primarily in support of M&A transactions such as purchases, sales, divestments, and refinancing of projects and platforms. Our technical work contributes to the efficient functioning of the equity markets which are increasingly driving renewable energy penetration in North America. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical advisory services in support of customer M&A transactions. You will support M&A Project Managers and company technical leads, as well as contribute to a high performing team by delivering customer value, fostering collaboration, driving innovation, and identifying opportunities for team growth and improvement. This role is based at our DNV office in San Diego (CA), Austin (TX), Houston (TX), Oakland (CA), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Medford (MA), Oak Brook (IL),Arlington Dallas (TX) or New York (NY), presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process. The position may also be considered at other DNV offices within US.What You'll Do
  • Support M&A Project Managers on customer management and execution of technical scopes of work
  • Coordinate the technical review process among internal specialists within the civil and electrical engineering, energy assessment, solar/wind/storage/renewables technology, and permitting teams
  • Perform portions of due diligence reviews, including contract and financial model (OpEx and CapEx) reviews
  • Synthesize input from technical specialists and write portions of due diligence reports and deliverables
  • Support resolution of technical issues with project stakeholders, including coordinating input from internal technical specialists and interfacing with customers
  • Manage documents and data rooms, including tracking, downloading, and dissemination of relevant project documents to internal specialists
  • Review project operating reports to evaluate asset health and performance
  • Draft winning proposals for scopes of services related to due diligence work
  • Prioritize QHSE considerations within the team to ensure safe execution and healthy work environment
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts including leading tool development, process refinement, digitization efforts, and lessons learned activities

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, energy systems, environmental science, business, or closely related field from accredited four-year university
  • Minimum of 2 years demonstrable experience in the solar, wind, storage, or energy industry in North America
  • Knowledge of the renewable energy project lifecycle and associated items which may include project contracts (EPC, equipment procurement, IA, PPA, etc), technology and design, energy production assessments and performance, financial modeling and economics (CapEx and OpEx), operations and performance, transmission/curtailment considerations, common technical risks
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and deft project and time management skills, including an ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines
What is Preferred
  • Advanced degree in engineering or business
  • Understanding of the North American energy market
  • Aptitude in the statistical analysis of data
  • Experience in performing energy assessments and/or analyzing output data for renewable energy projects, such as:
    • Validation of technical inputs in project financial models including estimation and review of construction and operating costs, and energy estimates;
    • Operational evaluations through Monthly Operating Report review and supporting data analysis; and
    • Industry benchmarking analyses and development stage project screening studies
  • Previous exposure to project financing and working knowledge of project finance fundamentals, transaction mechanics, and financial closing processes
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with diverse customers and co-workers
  • Flexibility and adaptability to succeed within a dynamic team environment
  • Fluent in Python, Power BI, and/or other tools for analysis and visual display of information
