We are pleased that you are interested in career opportunities offered at MICA.General purpose:The Associate Provost promotes the academic mission of the college by leading program level assessment for continuous improvement; monitoring MICA's accreditation compliance; and by aligning the work of key academic enterprises with academic programs and departments. The APAS coordinates resources, timelines, and functions of the Fabrication Studios, Exhibitions Office, Decker Library, and Media Technology Services in support of the instructional objectives of each academic program. The APAS also oversees the Office of International Education and the Office of Research. The Associate Provost serves as a key member of the provost's leadership team, serving to connect, integrate, and align all academic units in work toward common goals. The APAS collaborates with the Career Development Center, the Ratcliffe Center for Creative Entrepreneurship, and the Center for Creative Impact to integrate academic programs with career preparation and civic engagement. The Associate Provost collaborates with administrative staff from across the college to support faculty and the student experience.Position responsibilities:The Associate Provost oversees several critical functions and a number of academic areas.
  • Directs Academic Program Review - Administer all aspects of program review process for academic departments, graduate programs, online programs, and academic support units. Leads program level curricular change as a result of the program review process.
  • Serves as liaison with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) by gathering institutional data, authoring and submitting annual reports, special reports, substantive change requests, and mid-cycle accreditation updates. Organizes 10-year reaccreditation process. Participates in regular training from MSCHE.
  • Develops, authors and submits MHEC new program petitions.
  • Provides strategic direction to the academic service units and aligns unit initiatives with academic affairs goals.
  • Supports activities, actions, and initiatives to increase operational effectiveness and service excellence of academic units.
  • Coordinates initiatives between all academic services in support of academic programs.
  • Provides strategic direction and operational support to the Office of International Education.
  • Coordinates activities between Office of International Education, academic programs, and other units at MICA.
  • Provides strategic direction and operational support to the Office of Research.
  • Coordinates activities between the Office of Research, the Center for Creative Impact, academic programs and other units at MICA.
  • Leads the academic components of career development and the integration of learning and work in collaboration with the Career Development Center.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain external partnerships in coordination with academic departments, the Career Development Center, RCCE, CCI, and others.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - the Associate Provost should possess:
  • MFA or PhD in art, design, or a related field
  • College level teaching experience in art or design
  • Record of higher education administration at director level or higher
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management
  • A broad understanding of the role of art and design education in a contemporary global context.
  • A broad understanding of art and design issues and trends, both nationally and internationally
  • A clear understanding of the important and changing relationships between education, research, and professional practice
  • A demonstrated commitment to the role that institutions play in the development of local neighborhoods and communities
  • Demonstrated budget management skills
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial, proactive style, with excellent human relations and leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to forge relationships and engage in collaboration
  • Detail oriented and deadline driven work ethic
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
Collaborative and Representative Roles
  • Member of Provost's Council and Governance Meeting
  • Serves as one of the principle academic and administrative representatives within and beyond the MICA Community
  • Represents Academic Affairs on Staff Senate convenings
  • Represents Academic Affairs at a variety of annual events and functions, including: Orientation, Parent's Weekend, National Portfolio Day, and Commencement
  • Represents MICA at a variety of local, regional, national, and international functions and meetings
Reporting to this position:Academic Services comprises Decker Library, the Fabrication Studios, the Exhibitions Office, the Office of International Education, and the Office of Research. Academic technology and media services may move to the purview of academic affairs later in 2024. The directors of each of these units report directly to the Associate Provost.Conditions of Employment:
