Position SummaryThe Cannabis Lab Associate Scientist plays a key role in laboratory operations, ensuring accurate and timely handling of cannabis samples for testing. This position is responsible for assisting with sample intake, weighing and preparing samples, and performing physical chemistry tests to support quality control and compliance. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, possess a strong foundation in laboratory practices, and are committed to maintaining high standards of accuracy and precision.Key Responsibilities
- Sample Intake: Receive, label, and log cannabis samples into the laboratory's tracking system, following chain-of-custody protocols to ensure sample integrity.
- Sample Weighing & Prep: Accurately weigh cannabis samples according to protocol and prepare samples for various analyses, ensuring each sample meets lab standards.
- Physical Chemistry Testing: Perform routine chemical analyses on cannabis products, including but not limited to filth and foreign material analysis, water activity, and moisture content. Maintain consistency and reliability in testing practices.
- Documentation: Record all steps of sample handling and testing processes in the laboratory information management system (LIMS), ensuring traceability and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Quality Control: Follow established laboratory procedures and maintain quality control standards for accuracy and reliability in all testing activities.
- Laboratory Maintenance: Clean and maintain lab equipment, workspace, and sample storage areas, ensuring all instruments are calibrated and properly functioning.
- Additional duties as assigned, including cross-training to conduct additional analyses
Qualifications
- Education:
- Associate's degree or two years of equivalent college or university studies in the chemical, environmental, physical or biological sciences, or engineering, and at least six (6) months of experience in testing required.
- Bachelor's degree in the chemical, environmental, physical or biological sciences, or engineering preferred.
- Experience: 0-1 year of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in cannabis, pharmaceutical, or environmental testing labs.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in sample handling and testing.
- Proficiency in weighing techniques and sample preparation.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory safety, equipment maintenance, and handling of chemicals.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and compliance documentation.
- Attributes:

- Excellent communication skills and ability to follow SOPs precisely.
