The impact you will make: Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Chemical Engineer to join our growing Chemistry Process Research and Development team. We want someone who cares about this important work, and who's driven to connect to our mission of helping these patient communities. The Associate Scientist/Scientist will maintain engineering service and capabilities to support the development and manufacture of drug substance including reaction optimization, crystallization process development, particle engineering for all CMC projects from DC enabling activities to commercial process validation. The incumbent will proactively interact with CMC project leaders, chemists, formulators to identify opportunities to apply engineering principles during process development to enhance process understanding, assess scale up risks and accelerate process development. What you will do: Collaborate with a team to oversee and support drug substance manufacturing activities, including process design, optimization, scale-up, and technology transfer Provide technical support within the Drug Substance group, including troubleshooting, investigations, process improvements, and the implementation of new manufacturing technologies Assist in optimizing chemistry processes by utilizing Design of Experiments (DoE), production data, in-process controls (IPCs), and manufacturing information to enhance efficiency Responsible for material characterization and analysis to support process understanding and development Manage CROs/CDMOs for material solid-state development Support crystallization development and establish PSD control strategies Author and/or review pertinent SOP's and manufacturing process instructions Manage external teams to address technical issues encountered in the above areas Good to have: Material science background in small molecule solid-state development, focusing on polymorph, co-crystal and salt screening, characterization and selection Computational modeling and simulation experience to understand material physicochemical properties, reaction kinetics, and process scale down/up Extensive experience in the application of various analytical instruments Good knowledge for process safety evaluation What you bring: MS in chemical engineering or related field with 3+ years' experience or PhD in chemical engineering or related field for Associate Scientist OR MS in chemical engineering or related field with 6+ years' experience or PhD in chemical engineering or related field with 2+ years industry experience for Scientist Work seamlessly within a process chemistry department to support all programs Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in fast paced environment Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work individually, within a cross-functional team Strong oral and written communication skills Strong team player that is solution oriented with positive, energetic and proactive attitude Record of scientific contribution through publications and presentations Work Location: Location Specific - Onsite: This role requires the majority of work to be completed onsite at our Cambridge Headquarters. While it is expected that this role will be onsite a minimum of 4 days a week, Agios values flexibility, and flexible schedules around onsite work are available.
