As part of the Corp Messaging & Collaboration services team, the Associate System Administrator - Messaging provides support for a Microsoft Exchange messaging environment consisting of more than 200 locations and 80,000+ mailboxes. Support includes all aspects of messaging environment including Exchange, Teams, Office 365, User Provisioning services and Workspace One Mobile Device Management (MDM). Performs day-to-day operational tasks to ensure the availability and performance of the system along with diagnosing and troubleshooting issues. Working as part of a team, has visible direct interaction with home office users and over the phone interface with remote users at varying levels of the company. Key Responsibilities include:
  • Performs day to day operation and management of Office 365, including Exchange Online, Teams.
  • Supports the UHS messaging environment by maintaining the solution and resolving incidents and requests from facility technicians and customers.
  • Monitors the availability and functionality of messaging environment for optimal performance.
  • Monitors capacity and performance to identify future system upgrades.
  • Provides project related support by working tasks and activities associated with various projects and initiatives.
  • Provides support for the Mobile Device Management infrastructure of the messaging environment.
  • Performs system upgrades and updates.
  • Tests changes and updates in a lab environment to draw up an implementation plan.
  • Troubleshoots system issues and performs problem analysis to resolution.
  • Installs and maintains messaging servers - Exchange Servers, Workspace One, SMTP configurations, Encryption and Email gateways / security appliances.
  • Plans, coordinates, and performs maintenance activities on messaging related servers.
  • Documents procedures and standards to company policy.
  • Creates and maintains all messaging systems documentation.
  • Creates scripts to reduce the amount of manual processes/intervention on the system
Qualifications Position Requirements: Must have a working knowledge and understanding of IT and messaging related systems, including Microsoft Office 365 and Exchange Online, to quickly address issues. Must have experience using Windows server 2016, 2019 or 2022 as well as be knowledgeable in Active Directory. Should have a working knowledge of networks, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, PCs, and Messaging related applications. Technical expertise in the areas of messaging systems, administration, design, implementation, configuration, and security is desired along with system administration experience of Windows based servers hosting applications. Required Experience and Skills
  • Associate's degree or 2 years of college coursework towards a Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years of working experience in planning, designing, deploying, managing/ troubleshooting Microsoft Exchange Server (2019 or Exchange Online) systems as well as the following areas: DNS, Windows Server 2016 / Server 2019, and Windows PowerShell
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years of working experience with Office 365 to include Exchange and Teams. Additionally, experience with one or more of the following is preferred - InTune, Azure AD, OneDrive for Business and Azure AD Conditional Access.
  • Working with and troubleshooting the following technologies - SMTP, DNS, Outlook, Outlook Web App (OWA), Exchange ActiveSync, archiving and Message Transport / Mail routing
  • Administration and configuration of Office 365 services/applications and Exchange Online in a hybrid setup with on-premise Exchange
  • Experience performing migrations from on-premise Exchange to Exchange and Teams
  • Experience deploying and configuring Microsoft Teams, to include, setting up Teams, configuring meeting, messaging policies and managing apps
  • Experience using the Security & Compliance capabilities in O365 to perform security audits and mailbox e-discovery searches
  • Experience using Microsoft Defender to configure email policies.
  • Configuring and managing e-mail security devices (e.g. Symantec, Proofpoint, Barracuda)
  • Experience using PowerShell to script tasks for automation and to administer Exchange
  • Experience managing the health of Office 365 services
  • Experience in the backup/recovery of user data in Office 365
  • Configuring and managing mobile devices using InTune or Workspace One mobile device management (MDM)
  • Microsoft Office 365 certification preferred but not required.
  • Excellent teamwork abilities as well as written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented, organized and possesses self-management and prioritization skills to handle multiple tasks and projects.
  • Participation in the on-call rotation process as part of the team.
  • Technically knowledgeable and customer service oriented with the ability to interact with all levels of an organization in a professional manner.
  • Strong end-user support experience needed to resolve customer problems remotely using RDP type tools. Good communication skills (both written and verbal) required as most support is conducted over the phone.
