Position Summary:
Manage assigned accounts Assist with the Underwriting and processing of new and renewal business written within the scope of the Underwriting Department. Job duties include servicing active and expired policy files, and developing and fostering profitable relationships with clients, internal and external, in accordance with established Brown & Riding values, goals, and procedures.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for handling all aspects of a file in consultation with binding underwriter, apart from the original quoting of accounts other than those assigned by the binding underwriter. Will also initially screen all renewals and will oversee sending out renewal letters or non-renewal letters where appropriate. Will pull loss runs for upcoming renewals and advise U/W of any issues relative to losses. Will assist with training as required.
Submissions: Clear & log in Submissions into management system. Obtain appropriate underwriting information as stated in our underwriting manuals per our contract carrier company guidelines.
Quoting: all pertinent information must be on the quote for policy issuance such as forms, rating & class code information. Obtain and state all information needed upon binding from the retailer including forms for out of state filings. Set suspense's as appropriate. Label and file rating worksheet.
Inspections: Initially review inspections when received and compared against what was quoted and bound. Advise binding underwriter of any discrepancies and present to the underwriter for final approval. Recommendations will be sent out by the UA's upon direction of the underwriter. Follow up on recommendations as appropriate. The underwriter will direct to the UA if a DNOC will be sent if the recommendations are not complied with by the retailer.
Assisting: the underwriter with tasks such as obtaining information, training the UA's for quoting and marketing renewals where appropriate. Will also need to know how to issue policies and binders when needed and will issue automated policies and endorsements where applicable
Marketing: assist on joint calls with other departments to our retailer brokers and make calls independently when appropriate. Other marketing functions will include retailer broker & company calls or invitations to join them on events as directed or needed. Assisting with marketing flyers and obtaining market information as needed for our contract carriers.
Above all, ensure that the policy delivered to client is what was promised by Brown & Riding.

· Obtain and maintain insurance licenses in all jurisdictions where appropriate.

· Attend industry conventions and meetings.
· Network with industry professionals.
· Prepare and present seminars or sales presentations.
· Instruct training and/or continuing education classes.
· Coordinate with customers to obtain and/or provide claim information related to existing business.
· Review renewal and/or new business information submitted by the customer and request supplemental or explanatory information if required.
· Determine appropriate markets for new and renewal submissions.
· Negotiate with underwriters.
· Analyze and compare insurance forms against account exposures.
· Prepare matrices for the department to compare coverages from difference carriers.
· Create policy review presentations.
· Analyze quotes received to determine recommended insurance program.
· Explain policies and/or coverage issues to retail customers and negotiate modifications with underwriters.
· Request binders from carriers.
· Review and sign policies and affidavits when appropriate.
· Compare binder requests from retail customers against coverage quotations for accuracy.
· Review requests to bind before sending to insurance carrier.
· Check policies against binders and/or quotes to ensure accuracy.
· Review and analyze policies and endorsements for accuracy.
· Call customers to follow up on outstanding receivables.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:
1. Licensed – Property & Casualty
2. 2-5 years insurance experience
3. Strong preference for commercial property and casualty & surplus line experience
4. Exceptional organization, follow-up, communication, management, leadership and interpersonal skills
5. Possess an intuitive and proactive approach to business problems and solutions
6. Exhibit good listening skills and a willingness to help and support others
7. Advanced skill level in PC software (Word, Excel and other software, as required)
8. Ability to be flexible in work schedule as needed
9. Utilizes reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions
Work Environment
1. Physical activities of job are within the normal expectations of an office environment where the amount of standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and other movements are within the control of the incumbent.
2. Vision requirements are in the normal range, correctable with glasses or contacts, where color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception have no significant impact on job performance.
3. Working environment is generally within the confines of an office where normal climate conditions support effective job performance. Some daily travel may include limited time spent outside in the elements as part of the normal commute.
4. Risk of exposure to hazardous materials, electrical shock, explosives, radiation, vibration or airborne particles are at the extreme minimum. Protective clothing is usually not necessary to effective job performance or safety.
