General Summary of Position

As an Assistant Chief Physicist, you will assist the Chief of Radiation Physics Division (Chief Physicist) of the Department of Radiation Medicine in providing patient care services related to medical radiation physics and dosimetry, assist with managing the radiation physics and dosimetry staff, assist with maintaining a quality assurance program compliant to state and NRC regulations and consist with recommended guidelines of professional organizations on various practices and procedures. Primary Duties:
* The Assistant Chief Physicist will provide direct patient care services in the capacity of Qualitied Medical Physicist (QMP) as defined by American College of Radiology. Specific work responsibilities include but not limited to calibration of therapeutic radiation generation systems to ensure accurate radiation production for patient treatment; calibration of radioisotopes and brachytherapy systems to ensure accurate dose delivery in HDR and LDR treatments; check patient treatment plans generated by staff dosimetrists and physicists; assist with commissioning and implementation of new radiation treatment technology and new treatment procedures; participate in clinical, operational and quality improvement projects to continually improve and enhance clinical physics operational efficiency and quality.
* The Assistant Chief Physicist will be responsible for the Division of Radiation Physics' operation functions, including administrative duties and supervision of the staff of Radiation Physics Division and dosimetry staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
* The Assistant Chief Physicist will assist the Chief Physicist in developing annual capital equipment and service contract budget; assist in the specifications and selection and negotiations of major clinical equipment and computer systems; assist in facility design and specifications; assists in development and implementation of policy and procedures for safe use of equipment by the staff. This includes procedures to ensure compliance with USNRC, State or District regulations for ionizing radiation, TJC, and other professional standards as approved for departmental implementation; assists the Chief Physicist in maintaining and managing a radiation physics quality assurance program.
* The Assistant Chief Physicist will help them develop and manage the medical education programs for the department's clinical and physics residents. Participates in direct training of residents, fellows, medical students, graduate students, and other allied health care professionals on clinical radiation physics and dosimetry, radiation safety, and use of equipment. The Assistant Chief Physicist will participate in academic scholarly activities of the department through clinical and translational research and contributions to medical literature.
Qualifications
* Master's degree in medical physics or related science.
* 7 years' work experience in a clinical setting minimum with master's degree.
* Medical Physics Certification from the American Board of Radiology.
* Doctoral degree in medical physics or related science preferred.
* 5 years' work experience in a clinical setting minimum with Doctoral degree preferred.
