Responsibilities

* Responsible for the care and maintenance of all athletic fields. Repairs irrigation work. Maintains fields by applying fertilizers and pesticides involving spraying, broadcast and spot treatments. Monitors turf for diseases and insect damage and takes correction action(s). Monitors soil conditions and takes soil samples. Executes cultural practices and sport specific practices at athletic fields. Ensures playing surfaces are appropriately maintained for the safety of staff, student-athletes and coaches.

* Performs a variety of work to maintain all athletics maintained fields and common areas such as: mowing, top dressing, aerating, verticutting, weed eating, edging, blowing, and painting. Assists with special events and projects. Uses motorized vehicles to traverse campus.

* Assists the Assistant Director for Athletics with repairs, installations and maintenance of athletics maintained fields and common areas.

* Generates and responds to e-mails and daily work schedules.

* Assists with emergency and or special maintenance projects as needed. Remains on-call during designated periods outside normal working hours as needed. While on-call, the incumbent may be required to return to the work site to respond to maintenance emergencies.

Qualifications

* High school diploma or equivalency and two years of appropriate experience or a post high school education and experience equal to two years.

* Ability to obtain a Florida Pesticide license within six months of hire.

* A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver's License or ability to obtain upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Two year degree in turf or a related field and two years of appropriate experience.
