Salary: $34,980.00 Annually Location : Augusta, GA Job Type: Full Time Permanent Job Number: 201203629 Department: PARKS AND RECREATION Division: ATHLETICS Opening Date: 08/29/2024 Closing Date: Continuous DESCRIPTION The purpose of this classification is to plan, administer and direct adult athletic programs, leagues and tournaments. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Plans, administers and directs adult athletic programs including leagues, clinics, classes, programs, tournaments, special events and facilities use: establishes and distributes schedules, including dates, times and locations of practices, games, clinics, classes and events; administers policies with respect to scheduling, safety, and insurance; facilitates coaches meetings; maintains and updates league websites; processes registration documentation and fees; and acts as tournament director as needed.
  • Secures and trains officials: schedules training; assists in preparing and conducting training sessions; creates and distributes schedules for leagues and tournaments; and ensures adequate officiating personnel for all games.
  • Maintains inventory of sports equipment and supplies: purchases required athletic supplies according to established budgetary parameters; ensures proper maintenance and storage of all equipment and supplies; and maintains inventory records.
  • Ensures the maintenance and preparation of athletic fields and facilities: inspects fields and facilities; and communicates with maintenance personnel regarding field and facility maintenance and repair needs.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures: ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; and initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
  • Coordinates private rentals of assigned facilities; monitors event calendar and available space and dates; prepares and submits rental agreements; verifies agreements with renters; coordinates setup and equipment needs with other Consolidated Government staff; collects and deposits rental fees; and maintains related documentation and files.
  • Assists with youth athletic programs as needed: processes program registration documentation and fees; distributes uniforms; organizes equipment and supplies; assigns officials; and performs related duties as requested.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries from the general public regarding adult athletic programs and other parks and recreation programs: answers questions and provides information or directs inquiries to appropriate department resources.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation: High school diploma or GED Experience: Five years of experience in implementing athletic programming Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Considerable knowledge of registration guidelines for each sport and rules of a variety of sports.
  • Considerable knowledge of recreation registration software.
  • Familiarity with recreational facilities, community and civic organizations and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency in planning and coordinating large groups, supplies and volunteers, supervision of adults and recordkeeping procedures.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Licensing/Certification:
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
  • Must possess and maintain CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications.

  • Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
  • Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
  • Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
