Job DescriptionTitle: Athletic Trainer - Event CoverageLocation: Must be willing and able to travel across the Greater Grand Rapids/West Michigan area for events.Schedule: Per Diem-Flexible hours/week and days worked.
  • Event Coverage: Most events are held in the evening.
  • Clinic Coverage: Office hours are between 8AM-5PM.

Patient goals are our goals - we will restore their health so they are functioning as fully as possible in the activities they love at home, work, and in everyday life.Position SummaryAs an Athletic Trainer with OAM, you will play a critical role in providing on-site medical care, injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation services to student-athletes during various high school sports games. The primary focus of this role is to ensure the safety, well-being, and optimal performance of student-athletes. There may also be the chance to assist in our OAM clinical offices by helping assess and treat patients with orthopedic injuries.Essential ResponsibilitiesEvent Coverage
  • Provide immediate medical care and first aid to participants by evaluating and treating their injuries.
  • Collaborate with coaches, team physicians, and other medical professionals to develop and implement comprehensive injury prevention and treatment plans.
  • Administer therapeutic modalities and interventions to promote injury recovery and rehabilitation, including taping, bracing, and therapeutic exercises.
  • Educate participants, coaches, and parents about injury prevention strategies, proper nutrition, hydration, and overall health and wellness.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for each participant, documenting injuries, treatments, and progress.
  • Assist in the organization and execution of emergency action plans, ensuring a rapid and coordinated response in case of severe injuries or medical emergencies.
  • Collaborate event coverage staff to ensure compliance with safety guidelines, protocols, and regulations.
  • Stay current with the latest developments in sports medicine, attending workshops, seminars, and professional conferences.
  • Travel as needed for events.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of participants to determine the extent of their condition, identifying any underlying causes or contributing factors. Offer appropriate course of treatment and medical advice based on findings.
  • Adhere to professional standards, ethical guidelines, and legal requirements related to athletic training practice. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and institutional policies, including patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Clinical Coverage
  • Collaborate with providers and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized treatment plans for patients, incorporating therapeutic exercise, manual therapy techniques, and other modalities as appropriate.
  • Assist with overseeing prescribed treatment plans rehabilitation programs for patients, utilizing evidence-based techniques and protocols. Monitor progress, make necessary adjustments, and provide ongoing support and education to patients during the recovery process.
  • Speak with patients via phone to determine the necessary course of action based on the symptoms exhibited.
  • Order X-Rays, MRIs, CT scans and other diagnostic tests/labs and DME as directed by the physician.
  • Remove of sutures/staples and casts/splints and provide simple wound care. Assist with injections and aspirations if qualified.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records; documenting patient evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and other relevant information.
  • Adhere to professional standards, ethical guidelines, and legal requirements related to athletic training practice. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and institutional policies, including patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required & Preferred QualificationsEducation, Training, and Experience:
  • Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • 1+ years of experience as an Athletic Trainer.
  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
  • Eligible for State of Michigan Licensure.
  • Preferred:
  • 1+ years of experience working in a school or clinical setting
Specific Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of sports-related injuries.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients,physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Updated knowledge on Athletic Training practices, rules, and regulations.
  • Familiarity with state law and national regulations, athletic trainer guidelines, and clinic policies and procedures.
  • Proven attendance record.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.
Motor, Sensory, and Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching required.
  • Employee may be required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate modern office equipment.
  • Employee must have normal or correctible range of hearing and eyesight.
