Position Type: Athletics/Athletic TrainerDate Posted: 8/21/2024Location: District WideClosing Date: Until FilledJob Title: Athletic Trainer Location: New London Public Schools, Connecticut Position: Full-Time (1.0 FTE) Duration: 2024-2025 School Year Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Athletic Trainer to join our team for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Athletic Trainer will support the athletic department by providing comprehensive athletic training coverage at practices, games, and during office hours. Job Summary: The Athletic Trainer provides comprehensive athletic training services to support the physical health and safety of student-athletes. This includes injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation. The trainer collaborates with coaches, teachers, parents, and healthcare professionals to ensure a safe and effective athletic program. General Responsibilities:
  • Provide athletic training coverage at practices and games.
  • Conduct office hours for injury evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation.
  • Collaborate with coaches, athletes, and other stakeholders to promote overall athletic health and performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
  • Develop and implement injury prevention programs and protocols.
  • Present information and training to groups as needed.
  • Address and resolve conflicts effectively, ensuring a positive environment for athletes.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Injury Prevention and Care:
    • Develop and implement injury prevention programs.
    • Provide immediate care for athletic injuries and emergencies during practices and games.
  • Rehabilitation:
    • Oversee rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
    • Monitor recovery progress and adapt treatment plans as needed.
    • Educate athletes on injury prevention and proper techniques.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with coaches and sports staff to develop injury prevention and conditioning programs.
    • Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student-athlete health and injury status.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
    • Prepare and manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
    • Ensure compliance with state and national regulations regarding athletic training.
  • Emergency Preparedness:
    • Develop and implement emergency action plans for athletic events and practices.
    • Ensure that all necessary first aid supplies and emergency equipment are readily available.
  • Event Coverage:
    • Provide coverage for home and away games, practices, and other athletic events as required.
    • Be available for extended hours during the sports season to attend to athlete needs.
  • Qualifications:
    • Education: Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
    • Certification: Board of Certification (BOC) Athletic Trainer. Connecticut Licensure.
    • Experience: Previous experience in a secondary school setting or with youth athletes is preferred.
    • CPR/FA: Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.

    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to stand for extended periods.
    • Manual dexterity to handle phones, computers, and printed materials.
    • Capability to lift, carry, and/or drag up to 75 lbs.
    • Physical agility to bend, sit on the ground, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.
    • Exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
    • Willingness to work extended hours based on workload and event schedules.
    Salary and Benefits:
    • Annual salary starting at $60,000.
    • Average work hours of up to 35 hours per week, Weekends and evenings required.
    • Position duration from the second week of August through the second week of June.
