Position Summary: Provides athletic training, sports medicine and rehabilitation techniques to student athletes. Develops an individualized treatment plan with objectives to reduce pain, restore function, prevent re-injury and return to athletic play. Provides therapeutic interventions in a clinic setting under the direction of a physical therapist consistent with professional practices and ethical standards.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Provides athletic training services per contract at assigned school.
2. Teaches and demonstrates athletic training, sports medicine, and rehabilitation techniques to patients, their families, and student athletes.
3. Utilizes treatment that is age specific, culturally sensitive, and not contraindicated; involves the appropriate personnel and family member when necessary.
4. Applies clinical skills and knowledge to injuries by selecting evidence based therapeutic interventions; utilizing logical clinical progression; completes ongoing assessment.
5. Treats clinic patients according to the treatment plan as established by the physical therapist.
6. Returns athlete to play within appropriate guidelines for sport and injury; appropriately prepares athlete to be discharged from supervision, considers and adheres to physician recommendations/protocols.
7. Understands and utilizes contemporary immobilization devices and special protective equipment for prevention and protection of injury.
8. Completes legible, accurate and clear documentation within the established timeframe identified in the department policy and procedure.
9. Maintains accurate, legible, and timely student athlete records, maintains supply usage log to identify supply needs; per policy and guidelines.
10. Provides appropriate supervision, delegation, and mentorship skills for high school student volunteers in accordance with state law; provides through adequate and appropriate education in accordance with state law.
11. Participates in professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, including in-service meetings, workshops, and by reading current literature concerning scope of practice.
12. Demonstrates and understands the professional, ethical, and legal parameters which define the proper role of the licensed athletic trainer in the treatment and rehabilitation of injured athletes and patients.
13. Prepares and cares for equipment and supplies necessary for the operation of the program.
14. Demonstrates respectfulness and honesty. Presents self in a professional, positive, enthusiastic, and approachable manner. Promotes McLaren through proper attire, attitude, and attention to contract initiatives.
15. Responds to real or simulated emergency and disaster situations according to established procedures.
16. Respects patient's rights by providing privacy and confidentiality of information.
17. Communicates with patients, family, and significant other to promote maximum benefit of care (using AIDET).
18. Functions within scope of practice as defined by the state's practice act.
19. Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Qualifications:
Required:
* Graduate from a curriculum in athletic training
* Certified through NATA-BOC
* State licensure as an athletic trainer
* BLS certification
