Provides athletic screenings in the schools, hospital, and outpatient facility according to the principles and practices of the National Athletic Trainers Association. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary Rehabilitation Team including physicians, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. Provides training guidelines and modification for athletes and coaches. Makes recommendations to athletes, coaches, parents, and physicians regarding an athlete's injury. Provides game coverage. Provides rehabilitation under guidance of licensed therapist. Plans, organizes, and implements specific medically prescribed cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation programs. Vital role on Cardia/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team as exercise specialist.
Job Specifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited program for athletic trainers. Licensure in Illinois or eligibility for licensure is required. Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association is required. Clinic and field experience is preferred. Current CPR certification, telemetry training, and progress toward ACLS certification is required.JOB KNOWLEDGE: Emphasis in prevention of athletic injuries/illnesses, evaluation of athletic injuries/illnesses and medical referral, first aid and emergency care, rehabilitation and reconditioning, organization and administration, and counseling and guidance. Basic reading and math skills. Clerical, record keeping, medical terminology and patient care skills, CPR, knowledge of regulatory standards, safety and infection control, and hospital procedures. Basic interpersonal skills. Effective communication and telephone etiquette, and the ability to function productively and cooperatively as part of a team. Exhibit excellent guest relations to patients, visitors, physicians and coworkers. Demonstrate courtesy, compassion, and respect at all time.
