Athletic Trainer TheAthletic Trainer reports to the Head Athletic Trainer and provides consistentathletic training coverage for varsity student athletes. The athletic traineris a board-certified health care professional who provides preventative services,emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, andrehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions to intercollegiate athletes.The athletic trainer works under the direction of the team physician andprovides care to Western New England's 21 NCAA athletic teams.ESSENTIALDUTIES:
- Assist in the daily operations of the AthleticTraining Room.
- Perform all athletic training duties, includingbut not limited to assessment, prevention, care and rehabilitation ofathletic injuries and illnesses.
- Assess new injuries and determine an appropriatecourse of action within Massachusetts state license scope of practice.
- Work closely with Team Physician, consultingmedical professionals and University Health Services providers.
- Appropriately document all injuries, treatmentsand rehabilitation services provided using the applicable method fordocumentation.
- Maintain communication with the Head AthleticTrainer, athletic training staff, coaches, and administrators.
- Apply WNE Concussion policy in conjunction withAthletic Training staff, University Health Services, Team Physician andClinical ImPACT Consultant.
- Educate student-athletes and coaches on signs,symptoms, causes and recognition of concussions.
- Travel with athletic teams for various events throughoutthe year, including spring break.
- Become a Preceptor for local college AthleticTraining Students.
- Act as a primary athletic trainer for designatedteams and be responsible for the following:
- Ensuring student-athletes are fully clearedthrough University and NCAA requirements b. Communicating with University
- Health Services, Team Physician, and other medical consultants to ensureoptimal care for each student-athlete
- Communicating with team coach regardingstudent-athlete clearance, pre-existing medical conditions, providingsafe environments for team practices and games.
- Stocking team med kit for away contests andcontacting host AT for away contests to coordinate treatment forstudent-athletes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Head AthleticTrainer and Director of Athletics.
REQUIREDKNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES:
- Must be a board certified and MA state licensedathletic trainer.
- Strong background in athletic training emergencyand rehabilitative processes.
- Proper use of athletic training modalities.
- Appropriate computer knowledge.
- Work together with Athletic Training Staff toprovide care for all WNE student-athletes.
