MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's degree. Experience:
- Previous experience preferred.
- Ability and willingness to work with students in a Sports Medicine Program.
License/Certifications:
- State Licensure by NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners required.
- Current BLS certification.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Additional languages preferred.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
Other Skills:
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Knowledge of physical medicine, physical therapy modalities, anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of physical therapy machine operation, maintenance and repairs of same.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Is responsible for giving basic instruction to athletic staff members in the prevention and care of injuries. Is responsible for training and supervising sports medicine student assistants. Is responsible for referring athletic injuries to physicians for diagnosis and/or treatment. Carry out appropriate instructions and treatment as directed by the (athlete's) physician. Develop and supervise appropriate rehabilitation programs for athletes under the direction of the physician. Assist and advise the athletic staff regarding conditioning programs and the selection, care and fitting of protective equipment. Determine if a player is capable of continued participation in a game and/or practice if the player is injured. Is responsible for the treatment and supervision of treatment for all athletic injuries and conditions. Is responsible for the organization, inventory and requisition of all training room supplies with the advisement and approval of the athletic director. Should be present at all school sponsored home athletic events, as the various sports calendars will permit. Coordinate an extension of sports medicine services when appropriate. Must physically attend all football practices and both home and away games unless excused by direct supervisor in writing due to an emergency. Must be physically present if any protective equipment (helmets and/or shoulder pads) is worn by student-athletes participating in football skill development during the school year. Must physically attend all summer football 7-on-7 events and must be physically present at all times in any competition area in which contests are being held. Must physically attend all wrestling matches and be physically present at all times in any competition area in which wrestling matches are being held. Example: Wrestling in the Auxiliary Gym and Main Gym at the same time would require two licensed athletic trainers or first responders or a combination of one of each. Is responsible for providing sports medicine supervision at all other major school sponsored home athletic events, which would involve a number of teams and a significant amount of time, i.e. all day as opposed to 2-3 hours (volleyball invitational, wrestling tournaments, track invitational, etc.). Shall make and/or assist with proper arrangements for scheduling athletic physicals for student athletes. Shall remain on campus and/or be available until approximately 4:00 P.M. each school day during the winter and spring seasons to treat athletic injuries. Is responsible for the care and cleanliness of the athletic training room. Is responsible for the maintenance of student athletic files, which may include physicals, injury reports, treatment logs, etc. Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.).
