Job Summary:
Under direction, provides preventive, protective and emergency first aid care for athletic teams; inventories, issues, stores and maintains equipment, supplies and uniforms for required athletic teams.
Essential Job Functions:
* Administers emergency athletic first aid, preventive taping/fitting of protective equipment for the purpose of providing specialized treatment and/or rehabilitation of injured athletes in accordance with directions from team physician.
* Administers tests (i.e. injury evaluation, physical strength, flexibility and agility, etc.) for the purpose of determining the nature and extent of athletic injuries and post injury recovery.
* Assists team physician, Athletic Director, coach's, etc. for the purpose of managing care of the injured athletes, and ensuring prevention of injuries.
* Evaluates injuries and performs referrals for the purpose of providing immediate and post injury care to interscholastic athletes; and, recognizing potential catastrophic injuries and acts according to accepted procedures.
* Instructs athletes in the prevention of athletic injuries for the purpose of reducing the risk and exposure to injuries, and reducing the liability of staff and district by recognition and care of injuries that do occur.
* Maintains various records (i.e. injury and rehabilitation, equipment issued, inventory, budget, and equipment orders, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper documentation of the nature and extent of injuries in compliance with applicable insurance and statistical guidelines.
* Provides guidance and direction to other staff, volunteers, and student interns from other educational programs for the purpose of overseeing those individuals assisting with sports medicine program.
* Procures equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring adequate inventory of necessary equipment.
Other Job Functions:
* Performs a variety of basic clerical and other functions for the purpose of supporting administrators in maintenance of files and safe optimal learning environment.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
* Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skill in the prevention of, protective and emergency first-aid care of athletic injuries. Skill to perform basic clerical functions, perform basic math calculations, use English in verbal and written form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. Knowledge of the prevention and therapeutic treatment of athletic injuries. Knowledge of materials and equipment used in a wide variety of team and individual sports. Knowledge of the care, repair and application of athletic and therapeutic equipment. Ability to demonstrate physical education skills/activities, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents and other school personnel.
* Physical Requirements: The Office of Classified Personnel Services embraces the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The requirements of the position are maintained in the Personnel Department; and, individuals shall be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
* Education and Training Required: High School graduate or equivalent plus successful completion of a course in Sports Medicine from a vocational school and one (1) year experience working in an athletic program in a training capacity. Certification from the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) and/or California Athletic Training Association is desirable.
* Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
* Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance.
* Tuberculosis clearance.
* Valid California Drivers license.
* Successful completion of Athletic Taping Course.
* Current First Aide and CRP Certificates.
