The Eastchester School District is actively and continuously recruiting candidates for per diem Athletic Trainer on an as-needed basis. This position will cover for our regular Athletic Trainer during absences, ensuring continuous care and safety for our student-athletes. The Substitute Athletic Trainer will provide injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation services during practices and competitions, and will report any work done to the full-time Athletic Trainer to ensure continuity of care.

Under the general supervision of a licensed physician and the District Athletic Director, the Athletic Trainer is responsible for the care, prevention and treatment of athletic injuries involving student athletes who participate in various school sports programs. They will also apply the principles, methods and procedures for managing athletic injuries/illnesses, including the preconditioning, conditioning and reconditioning of an individual who has suffered an athletic injury through the use of appropriate preventive and supportive devices, under the supervision of a physician. Athletic training includes instructions to coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel and communities in the area of care and prevention of athletic injuries.

Duties:

* Provide first aid, CPR, and coordinate emergency transportation, as necessary;

* conduct initial evaluation following an injury and makes a decision regarding management of the injury;

* establish and implement a program for the purpose of minimizing injuries which includes condition programs, judicious equipment selection, athletic activity safety checks and determination of physical fitness for participation in intended activities;

* provide student athletes, parents, coaches and school staff with information regarding sound health habits and injury care and prevention practices;

* maintain an inventory and determine the need for athletic training supplies, equipment and maintenance services;

* establish and maintain detailed records on student athletes including sports physicals, incident report forms and prepares reports, as required;

* inform coaches as to whether an injured athlete may resume participation in athletic activities;

* determine if student athletes need joint or muscular support and performs the taping of ankles, wrists, fingers or wrapping of muscles such as hamstrings, quadriceps, etc., to enable student athletes return to functional athletic performance;

* apply appropriate physical therapy, as allowed by law, and/or conditioning for the rehabilitation of an athletic injury;

* monitor the healing progress of injuries and reintegrates student athletes into activities as appropriate;

* refer student athletes and/or families to appropriate physicians, as required;

* coordinate CPR, first aid, and defibrillator in-service training programs for teachers and coaches and the annual health screening and testing procedures;

* serve as consultant in determining student qualifications for participation in particular athletic program;

* assist coaches in monitoring and maintaining proper weight control programs for student athletes;

* attend training events and/or conferences as required;

* use computer applications or other automated systems in performing work assignments;

* may be assigned to other duties as required by the Athletic Director.

Requirements:

* Certification as an Athletic Trainer in accordance with Article 162 of the New York State Education Law.

* Current certification in American Heart Association or American Red Cross Standard First Aid and/or Community CPR or EMT certificate at the time of appointment.

* NYSED Fingerprint Clearance

Employment Terms:

Hours: Afternoon, Evenings and Weekends as Need

Salary Range: Up to $60/hour

Prerequisite:

* Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law 305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES). The Commissioner of Education carries out these responsibilities through the New York State Education Department's Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability (OSPRA).
