The Head Coach of any sport supports and advances the mission of FCS by planning, organizing, and directing the Varsity program for your assigned team, as well as overseeing the Junior Varsity and Middle School programs and coaches, with a Christian worldview and a high level of sport expertise. Reports to the Director of Athletic Ministries.Head Coach Responsibilities:
- Exemplify behavior that is representative of the educational staff of the school and be a credit to the Christian coaching profession.
- Coaches must maintain a professional appearance during games and practices. During games, approved Fredericksburg Christian attire, or business casual, will be required. During practices, modest attire is expected, with FCS attire preferred. The athletic department reserves the right to make modifications to coaching attire when necessary.
- Attempt to resolve differences with others (parents, fellow-workers, administration) by following the biblical pattern of Matthew 18:15-17
- Expected to attend the All Coaches meeting at the beginning of your respective season
- Work directly with the Athletic Ministries Department by keeping inventory of all uniforms and equipment.
- Organize off-season and preseason workouts and/or summer camps with the approval of the FCS Director of Athletic Ministries.
- Uniforms and/or equipment are to be issued to your players at the beginning of the season and collected and stored away at the end of the season. Prior to your stipend being released, you must check out with one of the Assistant Athletic Directors. Any equipment or uniforms that are missing will be deducted from your stipend.
- Supervise all student-athletes, at practices and games, home or away, once they are in your presence and until a parent or guardian picks them up.
- Submit your roster (name, grade, #, position) to the FCS Athletic Ministries Director once tryouts are complete. Rosters must be submitted prior to the first practice following tryouts.
- Send scores from each game to Athletic Director and email the scores of all of your games to the Free Lance-Star
- Attend end-of-the-year Sports Awards Night
Regarding Assistant Coaches:
- All assistant coaches, paid or volunteer, are the sole responsibility of the head coach. You are responsible for finding your assistants, with the approval of the Athletic Ministries Director. If you need help in finding one, assistance will be provided.
- All assistants must be interviewed and vetted by the Athletic Ministries Director. All paperwork must be submitted with HR, prior to the coach beginning practice.
- Once your coaching staff is in place, it is the responsibility of the head coach to help communicate expectations and guidelines of the FCS Athletic Department to all assistants and hold them accountable throughout the season.
- Communicate to all assistants, JV, and Middle School coaches what fundamentals and style of play you would like taught.
The Assistant Coach in any sport supports and advances the mission of FCS by providing leadership, supervision, and coaching instruction. Responsibilities may include supervising teams at various school levels. Reports directly to the Head Coach.Assistant Coach Responsibilities:
- Provide Christian leadership and coaching to all players
- Provide instruction in all phases of the game
- Work with FCS student-athletes to improve personal and teamwork skills
- Provide guidance and encouragement to help students profit from their participation
- Maintain compliance with Fredericksburg Christian School, VCAC and Virginia Independent School Athletic Association (VISAA) rules, regulations, and policies that pertain to athletic programs
- Promote the proper use and care of school property
- Communicate effectively with the team, staff, parents, administration, community, and the media
- Participate in athletic department fund-raisers
- Be knowledgeable of, monitor, and maintain compliance with applicable health and safety practices
- Maintain an acceptable attendance record and is punctual
