JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: ATTENDANCE OFFICER

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Must hold a High School Diploma

* Good health and freedom from disabling physical or mental defects which would impair the proper performance of the required duties, or endanger the health and safety of oneself or others.

* Must have own automobile and hold regular New Jersey Driver's License.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools and/or Building Principals

JOB GOAL:

The Attendance Officer shall have the power to enforce the compulsory school laws and rules, and any additional school requirements established by the Board of Education

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Check each student who is marked absent on the daily absentee list: High School, Elementary Schools, Satellite, and Bergen Tech, when called.

* Check all new students' addresses. Accept all phone calls from parents. Send out letters to parents about chronic absentees. Prepare working papers for students.

* Check out all supplies coming into the High School and distribute same as indicated. Process all new books and maintain stockroom supplies.

* Stamp all new books and number them; keep a record of all new books.

* Distribute teachers' weekly supplies

* Assist in answering incoming phone calls and deliver messages.

* Make follow-up phone calls for warning notices.

* Helps students prepare voter registration forms.

* Acts as coordinator of student funds

Any other responsibilites upon request of the VP, Principal, or Superintendent

Essential Job Functions

* Assists with the copying and distribution of documents and other materials (e.g., correspondence, bulletins, reports) for administrative, instructional and clerical staff.

* Assists in maintaining documents, files and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference.

* Assists with answering telephone calls, and provide information and assistance to callers.

* Assists in distributing incoming mail appropriately.

* Assists in maintaining inventories of supplies and materials for the purpose of ensuring items' availability.

* Assists with greeting visitors and visitor management

* Assists with the posting and verification of grades and interim reports

Additional Duties

Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.

* Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed.

* Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Google).

* Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.

* Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.

* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.

* Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.

* Effective writing and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications Profile

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

* High School diploma or equivalent.

* Prior successful clerical experience preferred.
