The Opportunity

Our client, a well-established and highly respected law firm, is looking to add a Real Property Tax Litigation Attorney to join their national real property tax practice. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of 10+ years of experience in complex litigation, valuation and assessment of energy/power assets for local and state real property tax assessment purposes. Potential locations for the position include Upstate New York, New York City, Boston, Washington, DC or New Haven, CT. A remote work situation is possible for the right candidate. Approximately 25% travel required for the role.

Requirements

This position will help oversee and manage a national energy and power client base. Representative clients include:

A large publicly traded, pure-play renewable power company

A private equity energy firm that invests in middle market power companies across North America

A private equity energy firm specializing in energy infrastructure investments focusing on power generation, transmission and storage and related projects

An international energy company focused on low-carbon projects including offshore wind.

No book of business required, but is a major plus especially for partner-level candidates.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

• Juris Doctor (JD)
• 10+ years experience in complex litigation, valuation and assessment of energy/power assets
• Knowledge and experience in various valuation methodologies and interpretation and utilization of expert appraisal reports
• Experience on a multi-jurisdictional/national basis in complex litigation, M&A due diligence, expert testimony and a working knowledge of regional energy markets
• Experience in tax compliance management and PILOT agreements would be a plus
• Experience in the energy/utility industry is a major plus but not necessary for candidates with the right experience or other relevant credentials in other industries.

Upstate New York salary range for Partner level candidates is $150,00 to $200,000. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to the actual office location, years of experience, qualifications and skill set. This salary range represents a good-faith and reasonable estimate of the range of compensation and does not include performance or merit based bonuses or other benefits offered by the firm.
