Auburn University's commitment to public engagement includes a strategic goal to partner with units within University Outreach, school districts, government, and non-profit organizations to provide initiatives specifically designed to prepare underserved K-12 students in the state of Alabama for college and or the workforce. In tapping into the human and intellectual resources of Auburn University and other partnerships, the Center for Educational Outreach and Engagement (CEOE) will provide academic, social, and cultural experiences to these students with the intention of leveraging their opportunities for success in college and society at-large. Additionally, CEOE is mindful of 21st Century skills that students will need as global citizens. Hence, CEOE will develop and implement programs and experiences that enhances international exchange and expands the global capabilities of students. Existing Programs in CEOE are as follows: Young Professionals in Training (YPiT), a mentoring and tutoring program for students in 5th-12th grades. The goal of the program is to empower participants and offer a pathway to Auburn University through a curriculum that encompasses academic, social, and emotional support. The program is a collaboration between Auburn University Outreach, Truman Pierce Institute (TPI), and the Curtis House, a local non-profit agency; Learning Spaces Saturday School is designed to provide hands-on activities for students on Saturdays. The program provides hands-on activities for students including local field trips, sessions on character building, wellness, art, natural sciences, history, STEM, global awareness, and other interesting topics; and Outreach Student Ambassadors includes students who are dedicated to assisting Auburn University Outreach in developing, promoting, and supporting university programs that serve the broader community. Member Duties : The VISTA will work collaboratively with the CEOE staff with coordinating and facilitating various K-12 initiatives for underserved students within the state of Alabama, accompany CEOE staff during K-12 site visits, assist with conducting research on K-12 Best Practices College Access Programs throughout the United States. The VISTA will collaborate with IT to develop marketing strategies that will promote the programs, resources, and services sponsored by CEOE. The member will review CEOE programming and modify the program processes as needed.
