Job Description:

Underscore Native News (UNN) is looking for a creative, innovative digital marketer to step into the full-time role of Audience Engagement Manager and take our audience growth and engagement to the next level. This position works closely with the Editorial department to share and amplify UNN's reporting for local Indigenous communities via email and social media.

You're a Strong Candidate If

* You have excellent communication skills-both written and verbal.

* You are a visual storyteller with experience in graphic design or video production.

* You have at least one year of professional, educational, or volunteer experience in audience engagement, digital marketing, or social media management.

* You've worked with digital publishing or content management systems (e.g. WordPress, Hootsuite, etc) and popular social media platforms before.

* The words data analysis don't scare you. You know that collecting, interpreting, and reporting on data, qualitative and quantitative, leads to better decision making.

* You are committed to cultural competence. Your self-awareness and openness to feedback mean you work well within diverse teams and communities.

* You are a highly collaborative person who's excited to work in close partnership with our Editorial team.

* You believe the quality of engagement matters just as much as the quantity. Building trust and rapport with our audience is a top priority for you.

* You have a solid understanding of search engine optimization techniques.

What You'll Do

* Set Underscore's digital engagement strategy-including defining, tracking, and reporting on audience growth goals and engagement KPIs.

* Create written and video content for web, newsletters, and social media to promote Underscore's journalism and programming.

* Write and publish weekly email newsletters.

* Manage Underscore's social media accounts-including comment moderation.

* Meet with the Editorial team monthly to discuss engagement trends, story performance, and other data to better inform editorial strategies.

* Build and maintain web pages highlighting Underscore's non-Editorial programming.

* Assist with scheduling emails and social posts during fundraising campaigns.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

* PNW-based. UNN is headquartered in Portland, OR and candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to either Oregon or Washington.

* Computer-focused. This role requires prolonged periods of working on a computer and looking at screens.

* Hybrid. Employees are welcome to work from home, but we do encourage staff to come to the office for weekly team meetings and spontaneous collaboration.

* Communal. Our office suite is open floor-plan style and features an editing studio, private conference room, and spacious kitchenette. Everyone has their own desk.

* Accessible. We are located on the fourth floor of an ADA-accessible building in NW Portland. Our office suite can be accessed by elevator or stairs.

Salary and Benefits

* $65,000 annual salary
