Overview:
The auditor is responsible for reviewing and analyzing documentation present in the medical record for inpatient, outpatient and/or professional services to analyze diagnoses/procedure codes as described by the provider(s) of record. This position is responsible for performing revenue audit functions as assigned. The functions will be varied, and require a broad knowledge of the revenue cycle, as well as the compliance structure as defined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines. These functions support the appropriate reimbursement and compliance with governmental billing regulations across the Mercy SSU's.
This position will work closely with multidisciplinary team within each Community to provide support and facilitate compliant processes. Analyzing and presenting complex revenue information to support operational and strategic decision making. The position provides compliance support to the organizations revenue cycle including oversight and analysis of quarterly RVU reports, assistance with physician incentive requirements, preparation and completion of annual audit schedules and various other coding analysis. As necessary the auditor prepares reports of findings and meets with providers and/or coders to provide education and training on accurate coding practices and compliance issues. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma
Experience: At least 5 years of coding experience in ICD-9-CM diagnosis/procedure coding and HCPCS/CPT procedure coding in an acute care or professional services setting, with awareness of coding requirements based on those payors, i.e., MS DRG, APC, CPT, ICD, HCPCS OR At least 5 years of experience in health care coding and compliance related actitivites
Certifications: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder(CPC) (CPC-P) (CPC-H), Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) orCertified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) to be completed within 6 months of employment
Preferred Education: A.S. from an accredited Health Information Technology program or B.S. from an accredited Health Information Management Program
