Gratiot Integrated Health Network (GIHN) has an immediate opening for a full-time, Autism Assessment Specialist.

Masters Degree in Social Work REQUIRED!

The Autism Assessment Specialist is responsible for providing initial and/or additionally requested comprehensive autism assessments, determining appropriate treatment planning, and/or making referrals to other services if deemed necessary, to consumers requesting and/or receiving autism services through the MDHHS Autism Benefit. The Autism Assessment Specialist is involved in organized, on-going, collaborative efforts that involve individuals aged birth through 20 years of age with confirmed or suspected developmental disabilities-related to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) that may require services from multiple systems.

SALARY RANGE: $57,262 to $81,120

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Regular, Full-Time, Exempt/Salary Status

Essential Functions.

  • Administers psychological testing and/or other evaluation techniques and prepares interpretive reports, consistent with training and discipline.
  • Performs initial access and additionally requested autism assessments for consumers receiving mental health services to determine individual and/or family needs related to autism services covered under the MDHHS Autism Benefit. This includes comprehensive diagnostic evaluations; obtaining personal, family, emotional, educational, social and medical information.
  • Involved in organized, on-going, collaborative efforts that involve individuals diagnosed with ASD and/or co-occurring developmental or mental health disorders which may require services from multiple systems.
  • Demonstrates core clinical skills in thoroughly assessing consumers with suspected and/or confirmed diagnoses of ASD, using evidence based, standardized assessment tools, as well as welcoming, motivational interviewing and stages of change, practices.
  • Performs diagnostic evaluation in collaboration with the consumer's physician, GIHN's Access Department, and/or the Outreach Program Supervisor.
  • Provides collaboration with referral sources such as physicians, schools, community professionals, other agencies, hospitals and courts, to ensure continuity of care and services.
  • Enhances community understanding and acceptance of individuals with a severe, persistent mental illness or developmental disability, as well as existing GIHN services, through educational community presentations throughout Gratiot County.
  • Able to accurately diagnose autism spectrum disorder, mental illness, psychological disturbance and developmental disability, using approved diagnostic nomenclature.
  • Demonstrates competency evaluating children and/or young adults through the age of 20, who may have experienced trauma and/or sexual abuse.
  • May serve as a member of the emergency services crisis team, providing 24 hour crisis intervention for the residents of Gratiot County.
  • Maintains complete, detailed and timely records, in compliance with regulatory and professional standards, GIHN policy and third party funding source requirements.
  • Adheres to GIHN and professional code of ethics.
  • Participates in staff meetings, patient review meetings, the clinical record review process (if required), and in-service training as an effective member of the clinical services team.
  • Protects the security, confidentiality and integrity of all protected health information in a manner that is consistent with HIPAA, MDHHS and GIHN policy and procedure.
  • Assures consumers' rights are protected and recipient rights procedures are followed throughout GIHN and its provider network.
  • Attends and actively participates in GIHN required training as well as seeks external education opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Abides by all applicable GIHN policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Performs work and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Competencies.

    The Autism Assessment Specialist must have completed the 2-day ADIR and ADOS-2 training. Additional trainings may be required. They must also demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques which reflect an understanding and awareness of trauma and social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served. They will also actively support the goal of person centered planning and integrated care and will acknowledge and develop competencies to support the understanding of the complexities of the human condition and the manner in which physical health and physical and/or emotional trauma are interrelated to the need for all mental health services. Must demonstrate computer skills, including entering and retrieving data. Must be able to read and interpret statistical data. Must demonstrate high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Must exhibit strong spelling, grammar and both oral and written communication skills.

    Required Education and Experience.

    The Autism Assessment Specialist must be deemed a Qualified Licensed Practitioner (QLP) per MDHHS, which includes the following professional and clinical degrees: physicians, psychologists, advanced practice registered nurses, physician assistants, or clinical social workers with training, experience, or expertise in ASD and/or behavioral health. Michigan licensure appropriate to professional degree, is required. Must have experience in the diagnosis and provision of services to individuals with mental health illness, developmental disabilities, substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders in a mental health or other human services agency.

    Preferred Education and Experience.

    Three years of work experience in the mental health field, with demonstrated experience completing diagnostic autism assessments.
