Position Type: High School Teaching/Special Education TeacherDate Posted: 5/30/2024Location: Octorara Junior/Senior High School(High-Needs School)POSITION DESCRIPTION: The most important function of the teacher is to direct pupil growth through educational experiences with an awareness of the child and his/her limitations. It is the responsibility of the teacher to utilize approved curricular goals as a basis for planning and implementing appropriate instructional activities with students. Create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, while establishing effective rapport with students. Motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed as a foundation to become lifelong learners. Establish positive relationships with parents, staff, and community. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 ½ months, 187 days, 7 hours 20 minutes per day REQUIREMENTS:
  • Certification from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Classroom experience is desirable
  • In addition to certification credentials, teachers should have poise, and interest in children, a sense of responsibility, the ability to work with others, and the ability to adapt to any reasonable pattern of behavior accepted by the community for professional persons
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Follows a continuous program of curricular development
  • Is aware of new materials, methodologies, philosophies, and innovations, using those that suit the needs of the individual student.
  • Using building regulations as a guideline develops and implements rules for student classroom behavior that are fair.
  • Establishes objectives for lessons and communicates those objectives to students.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Recognizes the learning abilities and/or disabilities of students and adjusts teaching techniques.
  • Seeks assistance from the district or other specialists when a learning or behavior problem becomes evident.
  • Consult with parents and other involved personnel concerning each student's intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.
  • Creates and maintains an environment conducive to learning.
  • Attends building meetings as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to reach above and below the waist
  • Ability to use fingers to pick, feel, and grasp objects
  • Some stooping, kneeling, bending, and twisting of the body
  • Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 20 lbs.
  • Ability to mostly sit with some walking, standing, or moving throughout the district
