Job Title: Auto Body TechnicianDepartment: Auto Body ShopReports To: Auto Body Shop ManagerLocation: Alexandria, MNJob SummaryAll new Diamond Quality Collision Center based in Alexandria, MN as an opening for an Auto Body Shop Technician.The Auto Body Technician is responsible for repairing and restoring vehicles to their pre-accident condition, following industry standards and safety regulations. This position requires advanced knowledge of auto body repair techniques, attention to detail, and the ability to work with a variety of materials and tools. The ideal candidate will have experience in collision repair, be able to read and interpret repair orders, and work efficiently in a team environment.Key Responsibilities
  • Vehicle Damage Assessment
    • Inspect vehicles for structural and cosmetic damage to determine the extent of repairs needed.
    • Read and interpret repair estimates and work orders to understand the scope of repair required.
    • Document vehicle conditions and any additional damages found during inspection.
  • Collision Repair and Restoration
    • Perform body repairs using a variety of tools and techniques, including frame straightening, dent repair, welding, metalworking, and panel replacement.
    • Replace or repair damaged vehicle parts, including doors, bumpers, hoods, fenders, and other body panels.
    • Remove and replace broken glass, trim, or other exterior elements as needed.
    • Use specialized equipment, such as computerized alignment machines, welding tools, and hydraulic systems, to restore vehicles to their original state.
  • Refinishing and Painting
    • Prepare surfaces for painting by sanding, priming, and cleaning.
    • Mask and protect areas that do not need paint.
    • Apply automotive paint, clear coat, and finish using spray guns and other tools to achieve factory-like finishes.
  • Quality Control
    • Ensure all repairs meet company standards, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications, and customer expectations.
    • Conduct final inspections to verify the vehicle is properly repaired and restored.
    • Perform test drives or other checks to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy and functions properly after repairs.
  • Customer Service and Communication
    • Maintain clear and open communication with the shop manager and other team members regarding the status of repairs.
    • Notify the shop manager of any complications, delays, or additional repairs needed during the process.
    • Assist with customer queries, ensuring that customers are satisfied with the repair work performed.
  • Safety and Cleanliness
    • Follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
    • Dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., paint, solvents) in accordance with environmental regulations.
Qualifications
  • Education and Experience
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Certification in auto body repair (e.g., I-CAR, ASE, or manufacturer-specific certifications) preferred.
    • At least 2 years of experience as an auto body technician or a similar role in automotive repair.
    • Knowledge of automotive systems, structural design, and repair techniques.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Proficient in the use of body shop tools, including welders, grinders, hammers, spray guns, and sanders.
    • Strong understanding of vehicle body parts, materials (steel, aluminum, plastic), and repair methods.
    • Ability to read and interpret repair estimates, work orders, and technical diagrams.
    • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality standards.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds or more regularly.
    • Comfortable working in a variety of positions and environments, including bending, crawling, or crouching under vehicles.
    • Ability to work with potentially hazardous chemicals (paints, solvents, etc.), and in noisy, dusty, or otherwise challenging environments.
Compensation
  • Salary: $22.00-$32.00 per hour.
