Job Description:
This position is located in a National Park Service Unit. The primary purpose of the position is to perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul work on automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other vehicles including gasoline and diesel engines and other mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronically controlled systems.To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Trouble shooting Use of Measuring Instructions SCREEN OUT: Experience as an automotive mechanic working independently in a full-service shop performing duties including the following: maintaining, repairing, and overhauling work on automobiles, trucks, construction and turf maintenance equipment, high reach lifts, and other vehicles including gasoline and diesel engines, electric motors, and other mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronically controlled systems; 2) troubleshooting, repairing, and/or overhauling major components and systems such as engines, transmissions, differentials and transaxles, electronic fuel injection systems, emission control systems, electric motors, and related computer assisted electrical, electronic, braking, hydraulic, fuel, and other assemblies; 3) disassembling, repairing, replacing, reconditioning, and rebuilding components of the various systems, and making independent judgements based on specifications in technical manuals and on accepted trade practices; 4) performing vehicle and equipment operation checks in order to determine safety deficiencies or service requirements of vehicles and equipment.
