Job Description:
SUMMARY:This position provides technical leadership and support for the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the PTK automation and process control infrastructure. It champions and implements improvements in systems capabilities that will increase the ability to meet customer needs and improve business competitiveness. You will work closely with the Manufacturing / Technical resources, operators, and mechanics to understand the business, site, and user needs and priorities. You will Provide process control assistance for the manufacturing area in various technologies ranging from DPC, SCADA Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and other interfaces with various IT technologies and systems. You will Identify, develop the scope, and lead minor and medium capital improvement automation projects. You will manage the DPC systems, SCADA HMI's, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), configuration, graphics, documentation, and training to enable stable efficient control of the process. Responsible for the programming of PLCs & HMIs and maintaining and revising code as necessary. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage automation and process design for installations at all facilities.
  • Analyze system requirements, capacity, cost, and customer needs to determine feasibility of projects and develop equipment process flow and operations plan.
  • Provide 24-hour ongoing support for production, answering support calls from users within the company by troubleshooting programs and creating a solution.
  • Confer with other engineers, customers, vendors, contractors, and others to discuss existing and potential projects.
  • Observe machines and equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Evaluate engineering proposals, shop drawings, and design comments for sound engineering practice and conformance with established safety and design criteria and recommend approval or disapproval.
  • Determine material and equipment needs and order supplies for projects.
  • Develops and performs operational, maintenance, and testing procedures for new and existing products, components, equipment, and systems.
  • Prepare project cost and worktime estimates for project decisions and implementation.
  • Review existing engineering criteria to identify necessary revisions, deletions, or amendments to outdated equipment automation and process controls.
  • Provide programming support and commission of new distributed process control systems, including PLC logic creation and modifications, HMI program development and deployment, data collection, and database storage.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining AutoCAD drawings for all automation and process control drawings, and P&ID drawings for all plants. Complete redlines after installation work is complete to keep drawings updated.
  • PLC installation, extensive programming, and troubleshooting for process system controls.
  • Project management including scope of work, schematics, and other project documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects in a team-based environment and operational setting.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (oral, written, and listening).
  • Cooperates with Operations, Quality, R&D, and Maintenance to provide leadership and technical expertise to develop the automation strategies and solutions for our manufacturing plants.

QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • BA in Electrical Engineering or Process Engineering
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code for compliance with plant designs.
  • Minimum of 5 years of automation and process control design experience.
  • Must be able to read mechanical and electrical drawings and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of practical application of engineering and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge and experience with Allen-Bradley PLC programming using Rockwell Software, PLC installations, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of the following Rockwell Software packages: FactoryTalk View SE, RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, FactoryTalk Transaction manager, RSLinx, FactoryTalk Batch, Win-911, FactoryTalk Recipe Editor, FactoryTalk Batch View
  • Knowledge of virtual servers, thin clients, SQL databases, and Microsoft Reporting Services a plus.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Capable of performing arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Must be able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Must have the ability to manage one's own time.
  • Have acute attention to detail.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting support for all automation and process control matters at all 3 facilities
  • Knowledge of CIP processes
  • Knowledge of Instrumentation
  • Experience in the design and implementation of control systems to manufacturing equipment and systems.
  • Ability to develop a long-term capital portfolio in the areas of productivity, ROI, and Essential Capital.
  • Knowledge and ability to synthesize new and emerging technologies into manageable and practical applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects in a team-based environment and operational setting
  • Experience in the Food & Beverage Industry preferred
