PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Automation & Controls Electrical Engineer will play a key role in partnering with Owens Corning Extruder Polystyrene (XPS) Foam manufacturing facilities and other members of the XPS Foam Business. The Engineer is accountable for executing medium and large capital delivery projects for the XPS Foam Business and providing technical support to the XPS Foam manufacturing including operations, maintenance, and process support.

The Engineer is expected to drive improvements in safety, productivity, and quality, while reducing costs and assuring EH&S compliance.Responsibilities include translating needs to engineering calculations, specifications, scopes, estimates and design packages; preparing documentation for procurement of equipment, contracts for installation; providing start up and support of the systems; and analyzing options to obtain maximum returns on capital investment through innovation and application of new technology.

The Automation & Controls Electrical Engineer is providing manufacturing support as a Subject Matter Expertise on XPS Foam processes, maintaining OC IP for the XPS Foam equipment and system design, supporting TPM efforts, supporting XPS Foam production sites, and supporting blowing agent safety systems to meet OSHA PSM design requirements. The Engineer will also support the maintenance spare parts strategy for the XPS Foam business and definition of key process equipment spare parts. The Engineer will support R&D plant trials, product development, and pilot new equipment.

Location & Travel:

* Work Location: Tallmadge, OH

* Travel: Requires up to 30 - 40% travel based on project demands.

* Work Schedule: Hybrid Work Schedule

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides electrical project management to capital projects to ensure successful design principles, on time and on budget project completion.

* Oversees contract engineering resources to ensure design and commissioning work is being performed in a proper manner.

* Achieves zero injuries in capital projects by ensuring safety through design and the project commissioning process.

* Applies sound engineering practices towards the completion of improvement projects.

* Manages capital projects from start to finish - write capital approval requests, ensure the requested funding is consistent with all project requirements, exec.

* Ensures timing from inception through start-up and commissioning is met in all cases.

Provides leadership and project management on electrical technical improvements to improve product quality, equipment uptime, and line utilization.

* Adheres to all plant and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards.

* Leads electrical aspects of multiple projects simultaneously by networking with engineering firms. Activities include directing scope definition, estimating costs, evaluating programming resources, and coordinating electrical resources for commissioning and startup.

* Monitors projects for compliance to applicable codes and accepted engineering practices and OC requirements.

* Utilizes effective project management techniques to lead projects.

* Ensures all projects are delivered consistent with scope and expectations around operability and costs.

Provides consultation services as the division's subject matter expert on key controls applications related to XPS Foam.

* Provides technical support to the XPS Foam manufacturing including operations, maintenance, process support and to the XPS Foam R&D team.

* Assists plant personnel in troubleshooting of various control systems.

* Ensures PLC/HMI controls appropriately configured and programmed to allow for efficient and consistent operation.

* Ensures electrical safety through LTT, control reliability, and guarding/interlocks is achieved. Use expertise to lead electrical safety in the division.

* Serves as an expert in the division's technical applications.

* Provides technical and process support to key business resources.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

B.S. in Electrical Engineering or closely related field

5 years of professional experience in electrical engineering project execution

3 years of manufacturing experience

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Background in continuous manufacturing

Leadership experience in a matrix environment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

* General understanding of all applicable electrical codes

* Knowledge and experience in writing project scopes and cost estimates, contractor bid packages, and evaluating vendor proposals.

* Strong project leadership skills and ability to manage projects through to completion.

* Strong verbal and communication skills.

* Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills to quickly assess situations, develop appropriate solutions, and manage execution.

* Able to utilize data and data collection systems for problem-solving and decision-making to eliminate manufacturing losses and unnecessary costs.

* Ability to change directions quickly in regard to work type, workload, and schedule.

* Strong planning, resourcing, and delegation skills.

* Able to achieve results fast individually and through teams.

* Strong knowledge of motor control, programmable controllers, software, instrumentation, feedback control systems, and control system networks.

* Experience in Rockwell Allen Bradley PLC and HMI Programming (RSLogix5000, Studio5000, FactoryTalk View), Siemens TIA portal, Wonderware, and/or Inductive Automation.

* Familiarity with pneumatics, hydraulics, control valves, and servo systems.

* Experience in equipment check out, debugging, start-up / commissioning, and troubleshooting.
