Job Description:
A growing engineering firm in Hopewell Junction, NY, is looking for an Automation Controls Engineer to tackle custom projects in a collaborative, hands-on environment. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys the challenge of designing unique automation solutions from the ground up. You ll create electrical schematics, program PLCs (especially with RS Logix 5000 and ladder logic), and occasionally travel onsite to ensure everything runs smoothly. The ideal candidate has experience completing full projects independently, including work with Allen Bradley controls. This is a great opportunity for someone who loves problem-solving and values a relaxed, team-focused workplace.Salary Range: $95,000 - $110,000 / year DOEAutomation Controls Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Design, program, and implement custom automation solutions using PLCs, from initial schematic design to final programming
  • Develop electrical schematics and bill of materials for each project
  • Collaborate with clients' electrical teams to align automation requirements and specifications
  • Write and test ladder logic and PLC code to ensure proper machine functionality
  • Commission and troubleshoot machines, both onsite and remotely, to confirm system performance meets specifications
  • Participate in limited client travel for machine commissioning, with some remote support capability
  • Engage with internal engineering team and customers to address and resolve unique technical challenges
Automation Controls Engineer Requirements:
  • 5-7 years of experience in automation engineering with at least 8-10 completed projects from initial design to implementation
  • Proficiency in ladder logic programming and schematic design
  • Advanced knowledge of RS Logix 5000 and Allen Bradley PLCs
  • Demonstrated ability to handle the entire project lifecycle, including panel layout, software development, and client communication
  • Willingness to work onsite with a commute from nearby locations
  • Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience preferred
  • Strong and effective communication skills preferred
