Job DetailsJob LocationYoungstown Manufacturing Headquarters - Youngstown, OHDescriptionSummary: We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to design, develop, and maintain automation systems for manufacturing processes and equipment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with PLC programming, HMI design, control panel design, and system integration. You will be responsible for ensuring systems are efficient, safe, and meet industry standards while providing technical support during the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance phases.Essential Duties and Responsibilities Includes the following: Control System Design:
  • Design and develop control systems for industrial automation, including PLC programming, HMI development, and control panel design.
  • Create electrical schematics and wiring diagrams for control systems.
  • Specify and select appropriate sensors, actuators, and instrumentation for control systems.
Programming and Integration:
  • Program and configure PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) from various manufacturers (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi).
  • Develop HMI (Human-Machine Interface) applications for system monitoring and control.
  • Implement communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, EtherNet/IP to ensure seamless integration between system components.
Testing and Commissioning:
  • Perform system testing, debugging, and commissioning to ensure systems meet functional and performance requirements.
  • Conduct factory and site acceptance tests (FAT/SAT) to verify system functionality and troubleshoot any issues.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
  • Provide technical support to resolve control system malfunctions, equipment failures, and process inefficiencies.
  • Analyze system performance and implement control system improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency.
Collaboration:
  • Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to integrate control systems into larger manufacturing processes.
  • Liaise with external vendors, clients, and contractors to ensure successful project execution and compliance with specifications.
Documentation and Compliance:
  • Generate and maintain technical documentation, including operation manuals, system diagrams, and maintenance procedures.
  • Ensure all control systems adhere to relevant industry standards and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, IEC).
Project Management:
  • Participate in or lead control system projects, managing timelines, budgets, and resources to meet project goals.
  • Provide training to operators and maintenance staff on system functionality and troubleshooting.
QualificationsQualification Requirements: Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automation, or related field. Exposure to electrical field work and managing electrical contractors.Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with robotics, motion control, or advanced automation systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial IoT and digital transformation technologies.
  • Certifications in control systems, safety standards, or project management (e.g., PE, PMP).
Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in control system design and programming, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience with PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial communication protocols.
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and HMI/SCADA software.
  • Strong understanding of control theory, PID control, and feedback systems.
  • Experience with electrical schematics, control panel design, and wiring standards.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and industrial automation regulations (e.g., NFPA, IEC, OSHA).
  • AMS Experience
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, sit for long periods. Use small tools and lift 50 pounds.
