Your Role We are hiring an experienced Automation Engineer in York, PA. This is a full-time, on-site position. The Automation Engineer will play a crucial role in the success of our pharmaceutical manufacturing facility and operations, responsible for implementing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated equipment, instruments, and systems. Successful candidates should have a strong background with Siemens automation systems and software.
- Design, develop, and implement automation solutions and control systems for required manufacturing equipment and instrumentation. Equipment includes but is not limited to facilities/utilities (compressed air systems, water systems, building automation systems, etc.) manufacturing lines and equipment, autoclaves, lyophilizers, CIP skids, QC instrumentation, etc.
- Responsible for detailed design specifications of automated systems.
- Support and execute the commissioning of new automated systems.
- Support the startup of equipment and controllers. (PLCs, HMIs, etc.)
- Create and and maintain SCADA systems.
- Develop and configure PLC programs. Integrate and troubleshoot various automation hardware components as needed.
- Support variable frequency drives (VFD) programming and troubleshooting.
- Integrate new equipment and processes into existing automated systems as needed.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional departments and teams to coordinate tasks and objectives, to ensure equipment is successfully up and running. This includes collaborating with remote team members for integration activities and objectives.
- Conduct rigorous testing, simulation, and validation of automation systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Effectively troubleshoot and configure control systems. Make informed modifications to control systems and software for improvement.
- Implement PLC Ladder Logic modifications to better serve production needs.
- Perform regular maintenance and upgrades on automation systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Identify and resolve potential issues and risks, implementing opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
- Proactively identify and suggest upgrades for various systems as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation of automation systems, change controls, and maintenance activities. Ensure all documentation is stored and maintained in document management system.
- Maintain Historical database, Factory Talk PI Historian, and local historical solutions.
- Assist calibration technicians in the calibration/maintenance of automated control systems and associated devices.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards
- Additional responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in automation engineering within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Must have experience with Siemens automation systems and software.
- Experience with Allen Brandley systems is a plus.
- Proven experience configuring controller systems, PLC programming, HMI development, SCADA, etc.
- Proven success understanding requirements/specifications to develop control systems independently.
- Strong technical/mechanical background, having been hands on with various pharmaceutical equipment and instruments.
- Strong understanding of industry regulations and compliance (cGMP, FDA, ISO, etc.)
- Proven project coordination/management capabilities in order to successfully drive project deliverables and risk assessment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
